A lengthy welcome

edit

Hi RAMSES$44932. Welcome to Wikipedia. I hope you don't mind if I share some of my thoughts on starting out as a new editor on Wikipedia: If I could get editors in your situation to follow just one piece of advice, it would be this: Learn Wikipedia by working only on non-contentious topics until you have a feel for the normal editing process and the policies that usually come up when editing casually. You'll find editing to be fun, easy, and rewarding. The rare disputes are resolved quickly and easily in collaboration.

Working on biographical information about living persons is far more difficult. Wikipedia's Biographies of living persons policy requires strict adherence to multiple content policies, and applies to all information about living persons including talk pages.

If you have a relationship with the topics you want to edit, then you will need to review Wikipedia's Conflict of interest policy, which may require you to disclose your relationship and restrict your editing depending upon how you are affiliated with the subject matter. Regardless, editing in a manner that promotes an entity or viewpoint over others can appear to be detrimental to the purpose of Wikipedia and the neutrality required in articles.

Some topic areas within Wikipedia have special editing restrictions that apply to all editors. It's best to avoid these topics until you are extremely familiar with all relevant policies and guidelines.

If you work from reliable, independent sources, you shouldn't go far wrong. WP:RSP and WP:RSN are helpful in determining if a source is reliable.

I hope you find some useful information in all this, and welcome again. --Hipal (talk) 16:45, 30 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Áron Márton, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Romanian. Proposed deletion of Chinonso Henry

edit

The article Chinonso Henry has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

WP:NOTMEMORIAL. He never played in a fully professional league as Delta Tulcea were not in top division between 2010 and 2012. Therefore, he fails WP:NFOOTY and WP:GNG, and this article shouldn't be kept simply because he died during a match- that would violate WP:NOTMEMORIAL.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.   Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Death and funeral of Michael I of Romania into another page. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Note that I have already added the {{copied}} template to the talk page on your behalf. Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Romanian people of Berber descent

edit

A tag has been placed on Category:Romanian people of Berber descent indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself. Liz Read! Ways to improve Aleksandr Sokiryansky

edit

Hello, RAMSES$44932,

Thank you for creating Aleksandr Sokiryansky.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

More sources are needed. Individual sources must be evaluated separately and independently of each other and meet the four criteria below to determine if a source qualifies towards establishing notability.

  1. Contain significant coverage addressing the subject of the article directly and in depth.
  2. Be completely independent of the article subject.
  3. Meet the standard for being a reliable source.
  4. Be a secondary source; primary and tertiary sources do not count towards establishing notability.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Whiteguru}}. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

License tagging for File:PDSR Logo.gif

If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.   Hello RAMSES$44932! While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source. You must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. Read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably free and compatible copyright license. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices. Our policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. In particular, you cannot copy text and change things around a little. That is a derivative work and is still a copyright violation. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 03:41, 21 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Introduction to contentious topics

edit

You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

  You have recently made edits related to post-1992 politics of the United States and closely related people. This is a standard message to inform you that post-1992 politics of the United States and closely related people is a designated contentious topic. This message does not imply that there are any issues with your editing. For more information about the contentious topics system, please see Wikipedia:Contentious topics. I hope you won't cancel all my activity for 1 joke. RAMSES$44932 (talk) 10:44, 13 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Your belief that such egregious and racist language is a "joke", that does not deserve punishment, suggests you are completely unaware of the purpose and policies of Wikipedia. Do not expect to be unblocked with that attitude. Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 10:50, 13 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Ok, my friend. It is your call. But I hope that you watched all of my edits before that before you took the decision to block me.
And "punishment" could mean to block me for 1 day, 1 week, 1 month. You blocked me indefenitely. Like that joke was the only thing I ever posted on Wikipedia, ignoring that I created complex articles that are useful today for thousands of people.
It is your call. RAMSES$44932 (talk) 10:56, 13 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
While you continue to not acknowledge the problematic nature of your edits that view will not change. Your previous contributions do not matter when you also inexplicably add vile racial slurs to articles. Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 10:58, 13 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
"add vile racial slurs to ARTICLES."
ARTICLES, man? Seriously? It was 1 edit. ONE. ONE ARTICLE. YOU ACT LIKE EVERYTHING I DID ON WIKIPEDIA WAS ADDING RACIAL SLURS. And I repeat, I understand if you want to block me for 1 day, 1 week, 1 month.
I apologize for reacting while nervously, (Redacted). Happy now? RAMSES$44932 (talk) 11:02, 13 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Nervous after this, I decided to make a joke. It was a stupid one, but it was after I was nervous because of (Redacted). RAMSES$44932 (talk) 11:06, 13 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
You keep on saying you made a joke. No. You used vile, abhorrent racism. It was absolutely disgusting. It wasn't because you were nervous and you trying to claim this strongly indicates the block is appropriate and needs to remain in place. See WP:0T. --Yamla (talk) 11:16, 13 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
(ec) It has been widely reported that Chiles has taken a break from social media due to abuse directed at her online. I don't see much point in litigating anything that Chiles said here, but I also cannot find any evidence of any such implausible comments. What's indisputable is that you made a comment that can accurately be characterized as "full of hate" in a WP:BLP. Wikipedia articles are not social media, your edits did not represent some sort of message to Chiles, and adding such material to articles is not a joke. Such editing calls into question your understanding of conduct policies and your ability to edit neutrally and productively elsewhere. Dekimasuよ! 11:29, 13 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
