Gunnel Adlercreutz moved to draftspace

edit

Thanks for your contributions to Gunnel Adlercreutz. Unfortunately, it is not ready for publishing because it needs more sources to establish notability and more citations to support the content. Your article is now a draft where you can improve it undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. DoubleGrazing (talk) 13:20, 24 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I've moved this into the draft space, as there is no evidence that the subject is notable by any standard; a single source is nowhere near enough to satisfy WP:GNG, especially as it is the person commenting on something, rather the person being covered. Also, please note that in the case of articles on living people, personal details such as DOB must be clearly supported with inline citations. Thanks, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 13:25, 24 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
OK. I will try best. __ Patricia (Talk) 14:24, 24 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Your signature

edit

Please be aware that your signature uses deprecated <font> tags, which are causing Obsolete HTML tags lint errors. As explained at WP:SIGFONT:

<font>...</font> tags were deprecated in HTML4 and are entirely obsolete in HTML5. This means that the popular browsers may drop support for them at some point. Wikipedia is already preparing for this by delinting code project-wide through Linter. When support finally is dropped, the tags will be ignored in all signatures; any properties such as color and font family will revert to their default values. For this reason, it is recommended that you use <span>...</span> tags and CSS properties instead.

Additionally, your signature appears to go against WP:SIGAPP, which says to avoid markup that enlarges text.

Additionally, it is expected that parentheses around "talk" in a signature are not part of the link to the user's talk page.

Additionally, if hyphens are in your signature, as it appears on Draft talk:Mehdi Mirza Mehdi Tehrani but not on this page, you might consider replacing the two hyphens (--) with em dash (—).

I have prepared a replacement signature string for you. You are encouraged to change

Finnish architects

edit

Hi,

I've also written quite a few articles on Finns (being one myself) and Finnish topics, and I learned the hard way that one thing you unfortunately cannot do is take a fi.wiki article and just translate it, because the sources are invariably inadequate or otherwise useless. If it's about a person, I now tend to start by checking out a few biographical sources, and if I find something there, then I look further; otherwise I probably give up at that point.

These sources are:

I then try to supplement these with one or two articles from the main broadcasters or major newspapers and mags. Their online archives go back easily 20-25 years, and then the National Library's digital collection has most of the really old stuff. (This seems to leave a bit of a gap in the latter part of the 20thC, mind.)

You probably knew all this already, but thought I'd mention just in case. :) HTH, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 13:02, 25 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

What you described was very helpful for me. Although translating a Finnish biography or article from the Finnish wiki is the easiest thing for us, it is really difficult to source it. I also give up sometimes.:) Thank you for reminding me of these three sources again. —Patricia (Talk) 13:13, 25 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Women in Red

edit

Hi there, Patricia Mannerheim, and welcome to Women in Red. It's good to see you are interested in helping us to chip away at the gender gap on Wikipedia. Having a Finn who is fluent not only in English but in Farsi should be an asset for the project. I've been looking through some of the articles you have created and am impressed with your many interests ranging from Finnish lakes to Iranian fighter pilots. Further to the above advice on translating from the Finnish wiki, you'll find guidance on writing biographies of women in our essays, perhaps starting with our Ten Simple Rules. You might also like to sign up under "New registrations" on Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/New members where others will be able to see your interest. Please let me know if you run into any difficulties or need assistance. Happy editing.--Ipigott (talk) 10:11, 28 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Ipigott: so much thanks for your kindness. before this i was in persian wiki and created more than 100 articles about this lovely project. i hope be useful user here. —Patricia (Talk) 11:08, 28 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Yes, I see from here that over the past four years you have been highly active in Farsi, creating no less than 1,186 articles. Perhaps some of the women on our redlist for Iran have been created by you. I now look forward to helping you along with biographies in English. Just let me know when you think your next draft is ready for mainspace and I'll see how it looks.--Ipigott (talk) 15:25, 28 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Ipigott: HI. i created first article. see:Josephine Lys. It needs better sources which I will find and add.Thank you again for the motivation you gave me.
  • I've had a quick look at Josephine Lys. First of all, for attribution purposes, when you translate an article from another language version, you should say so in your first edit comment. See Help:Translation. I've included a translation tag on the talk page. At the moment it looks like a borderline case for notability as Goodreads is not among the most reliable sources. (Nevertheless, her wide coverage on Spanish sites should be sufficient to maintain the article in mainspace.) You should try to find more reliable sources such as coverage in newspapers or literary journals, or reviews by recognized critics. Although interviews are not considered a reliable source, this interview may provide further hints on her background. You could always include it in External links. You might like to tag the article WIR-282 on its talk page as we are covering Writers and their works in September. Hope all this helps.--Ipigott (talk) 06:48, 29 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Ipigott: Ok i will try best. Writers and their works I will cover too. —Patricia (Talk) 11:41, 29 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
One more thing, in Women in Red (farsi wiki) I was only able to write articles for Finnish women and women who had a military career. I wrote about 500 articles about women, 100 of which were related to the Women in Red Project. I did not have the ability and literacy to write for Iranian women and I am very sad. —Patricia (Talk) 16:08, 28 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • We certainly have no restrictions on the women you can cover on the EN wiki and you need no special qualifications to do so. While it take some time to become accustomed to our practices, I think you will find it easier to follow your interests here.--Ipigott (talk) 06:48, 29 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Ipigott:excellent. I will devote most of my time to this project and I hope to be useful for this project as soon as possible under your training.—Patricia (Talk) 11:36, 29 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

On referencing

edit

Hi, a bunch of your new article creations (or translations) have come through my watchlist, and I noticed that the references are consistently a bit off. For example:

  • Pali-Maija doesn't actually cite the front page of kansallisbiografia.fi,
  • ref #3 in Kerttu Tamminen is just a link to raw search results, which don't appear to be relevant for the cited content,
  • Elsa Holmsten just cites the front page of virsikirja.fi for a whole paragraph,
  • at Elli Ruuth, you list a text's author as "lakimies.admin", an obvious user account that doesn't actually appear anywhere on the page,
  • at Hilja Gestrin you have a whole bunch of completely untranslated references ("s.", "toim.", "sid."), etc.

Please remember to take a second to check the references and their formatting while doing the translations. Cheers, Ljleppan (talk) 06:09, 9 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Ljleppan: agree with you too. References are limited. I have to try harder. I draw your attention to the fact that most Finnish Wikipedia articles sometimes have such deficiencies. I am a member of the Wikipedia:WikiProject Finland and the Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history. These articles sometimes cause such defects in the English wiki. i,ll try better.Best.—Patricia (Talk) 11:26, 9 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Hilja Tavaststjerna

edit

Hello, Patricia Mannerheim

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username DoubleGrazing, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I've proposed an article that you started, Hilja Tavaststjerna, for deletion because it meets one or more of our deletion criteria, and I don't think that it is suitable for inclusion in the encyclopedia. The particular issue can be found in the notice that is now visible at the top of the article.

If you wish to contest the deletion:

  1. Edit the page
  2. Remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. Click the Publish changes button.

If you object to the article's deletion, please remember to explain why you think the article should be kept on the article's talk page and improve the page to address the issues raised in the deletion notice. Otherwise, it may be deleted later by other means.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|DoubleGrazing}}. And remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. Thanks!

Notability

edit

Hi (again),

I've said this to you before, and I can see that others have also raised the same or related points here, but I feel like I need to remind you again that notability is absolutely essential, and a hard requirement for any article to be accepted into Wikipedia. When translating articles (eg. from the Finnish Wikipedia, as you seem to do), the first thing you must check is whether the sources are adequate, and if not, whether you can find more and/or better ones. If not, then there is no point in translating that article, because it will simply not be accepted. And creating lots of articles which fail on notability grounds not only generates additional work for others at NPP, AfC and/or AfD, as well as admins, it will also eventually attract the sort of attention you don't really want to attract. Once more: just because an article exists in eg. fi.wiki does not mean it must be translated into English, and – more to the point – it does not mean it will be accepted here.

HTH, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 10:22, 4 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hello @DoubleGrazing: and Thanks for your attention, I will have to be more careful in finding sources for the article. But please admit that articles about Finnish women are really weak. I compare with articles about Swedish women, I see that Swedish speakers (I am familiar with Swedish language) are better off. The best thing is: I will stop writing Finnish articles for a while. I pay attention to women of other nationalities and write articles for them according to sources. Unfortunately, due to being in a wheelchair, I lost the ability to attend the university where I teach and attend libraries for a few months. The internet is also sometimes not helpful. I strongly believe that offline sources can help the essay. Another thing: Patricia never wants to be the user who ignores the teachings of other experienced users. I always respond to a friendly comment deeply positively and respectfully. —Patricia (Talk) 11:36, 4 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
FWIW, I fully agree that Wikipedia should have more articles on women, in general and Finnish women specifically, which is why, like you, I also take part in the Women in Red project to help rectify this. But we still need to comply with the notability etc. requirements, because there is little point in creating an article only for it to be deleted soon afterwards for lack of notability. It pains me every time, while doing new page patrolling, when I come across a poorly-sourced article and know that I must either draftify or delete it, but alas these are the rules by which we have to play. Best, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 12:23, 4 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Once again with the translations

edit

Hi again. Please stop inventing translated names for artistic works like you did with the edits Special:Diff/1179479740, Special:Diff/1179490007 and Special:Diff/1179509828. This isn't complicated, see Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Titles of works#Translations. At the same time, please take the time to translate all Finnish language prose in the articles you are creating. To make this abundantly clear, let me give you a direct example.

This Finnish language entry

Jouluilta satumaassa: viisi pientä satunäytelmää, Astrid Wång-Mariani, kuv. Margit Broberg, suom. Immi Hellén. Kuvataide, 1930.

should be translated as

Jouluilta satumaassa: viisi pientä satunäytelmää, Astrid Wång-Mariani, ill. Margit Broberg, transl. Immi Hellén. Kuvataide, 1930.

if you want to keep the abbreviated style, or as

Jouluilta satumaassa: viisi pientä satunäytelmää, Astrid Wång-Mariani, illustrated by Margit Broberg, translated by Immi Hellén. Kuvataide, 1930.

if you want to write out the abbreviations, or as

Jouluilta satumaassa: viisi pientä satunäytelmää (A Christmas Evening in a Fairy Tale Land: Five Small Fairy Tale Plays), Astrid Wång-Mariani, illustrated by Margit Broberg, translated by Immi Hellén. Kuvataide, 1930.

if you want to include a literal English translation (potentially translated by you) for the benefit of the readers.

What you did at Immi Hellén,

Christmas night in fairyland: five small fairy-tale plays. Astrid Wång-Mariani, kuv. Margit Broberg, suom. Immi Hellén. Kuvataide, 1930.

is the worst possible way to do it. First, it lies to the reader by claiming that the work is well known by the English language title you appear to have just made up. Second, it leaves the actual associated prose untranslated from Finnish: readers who don't understand Finnish will have no idea what kuv. or suom. mean. Third, it's not a faithful translation: fairyland would be reasonable if the original was something like keijumaa or keijujen maa, but not for satumaa (lit.'land of the fairy tales'). Problems in relation to articles about Finland

edit

Hi there, Patricia. I'm sorry to see you are running into problems in connection with your articles about Finland. Thanks for alerting me in connection with this. What surprises me is that there is no mention of problems on the talk pages of articles such as Wilhelmiina Arpiainen. I see that Oronsay, one of the most active members of Women in Red was one of those who had edited the page. Do you think it would help if we brought this to the attention of the Women in Red project on the project's talk page? It seems strange to me that a keen contributor from Finland is being invited not to write articles about her own country.--Ipigott (talk) 15:05, 16 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Let's hope these discussions will pave the way towards overall improvement, especially in relation to sourcing. Maybe we can work together on your next article about a Finnish woman. You could keep it as a draft until we have checked it out.--Ipigott (talk) 15:55, 16 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Dear Dr.Goldsztajn So much happy to see u here. I hope you are doing well. I had request and help for this Draft. Draft: Mehdi Mirza Mehdi Tehrani. Before that this article once deleted (soft deleted) and Another have been editors to actions. 7 month pasted and here with subject but very different by text, independent and secondary sources. I believe the subject have nobility. Please if you have time or interest about this, help me for review and look.Best —Patricia (Talk) 19:47, 9 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Patricia Mannerheim. I've had a look through this and my initial feeling is that the earlier deletions were not unreasonable. The difficulty is that the sourcing is not strong; there's material which is sourced to interviews, sources which are essentially recycled and sources which have no mention of Tehrani at all. For the Persian language sourcing I'm relying on machine translation - which the draft appears to do so as well. For example, "He is also a 60% blood-agent chemical veteran" - what does this actually mean? He's a veteran of a chemical agent attack? What's 60% *of*? (another machine translation says this is 55%). For other sources where English appears, it is very poorly translated. So my initial reaction would be to decline the draft in its current state. In terms of trying to fix it:
1. remove all the sources which are interviews and associated text.
2. remove all the sources which do not mention Tehrani by name and associated text.
3. copy edit.
4. Sourcing to hamshahrionline - if I understand correctly, this is a newspaper owned by the City of Tehran, to some extent it can be considered a government source, so there are questions around its independence. The fact that Tehrani served for many years in a state administrative function does to some extent mean sourcing that is independent of the government is necessary.
Dealing with these concerns, I'm afraid though there may not be much left. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 00:25, 10 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
I've pasted this comment to the draft in case another reviewer comes across it. Goldsztajn (talk) 00:28, 10 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Dear Dr. Goldsztajn First of all, thank you for taking the time to review this draft.some notes:
1. about this:For example, "He is also a 60% blood-agent chemical veteran" - what does this actually mean? He's a veteran of a chemical agent attack? What's 60% *of*? (another machine translation says this is 55%). I checked this source twice and it says this in the English part:Mehdi Mirza Mehdi Tehrani is the commander of the Diver Ranger Battalion and is only surviving veterans of this 500-member. And he is one of the veterans of chemical blood gas (55 to 60 percent):My understanding of these sentences was that he was injured in the war by chemical gases that affect the blood system of soldiers.
2. Source :here, in my opinion, has dealt with Tehrani very deeply. In this article, only his scientific and theoretical opinions about cinema as well as his academic career have been discussed. what is your opinion?
3. I checked very carefully. Tehrani was not an employee of any newspaper. As a journalist and freelance writer, he has written for many Iranian press and media during these 35 years. Although he has worked as a professor at Tehran University. I checked several newspapers, many of them created the Mehdi Tehrani tag because there are many references to his writings. My impression and conclusion was that this could be a professional process in journalism rather than proving that he was their employee. Another thing is to see this link related to Hamshahri online: here. The names of managers, editors, secretaries and writers of Hamshahri are listed online. There is no name of Tehrani.
4. I visited Hamshahri online website. At least this site claims to be independent from the municipal body. In Iran, the municipalities of big cities are apparently independent. And the government of course gives them financial aid, but the policies are approved by the city council and implemented by the mayor.
4. I am very curious about one point. I mean source this in the draft:here. This is a conversation arranged by a supervisor named Nima Shayan as her name is written at the beginning of the conversation. At the end of this conversation (in Persian and English), and independently of it, I emphasize again independently of it, he has written a history of academic, media and university life, as well as Tehrani life as a veteran and war hero. I would very much like to ask you if this independent text can be referenced. Although I agree that what is written in English has problems in grammar and it made me difficult to read and fully understand it.
4. This source:here. This is not just a conversation either. Again, from the point of view of an outside observer, the records and background of Tehrani and Asabargar (as teacher and student) have been narrated:( most of the other talks are taken from the conversation of Lecturer University, historian and cinema critic Mehdi Tehrani (he was Mr. Asa berger's student in 1999) * with Arthur Asa berger). I would like to know your opinion about this.
6. I agree with you exactly about these sources:here, here, here and here. Your gaze was sharp and very precise. You are right. I will remove these 4 sources as soon as possible.in the end, I thank you again. I will wait for your reply and then I will act according to your opinion. I've also pasted this comment into the draft in case another reviewer comes across it.—Patricia (Talk) 15:20, 10 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Your submission at Articles for creation: Mehdi Mirza Mehdi Tehrani (January 14)

Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by Maliner was:  The comment the reviewer left was: Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit after they have been resolved.
Maliner (talk) 14:54, 14 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Maliner Sources that appear to be interviews are independently subjected to an unbiased review of the subject's work. They are in English. You definitely didn't feel like reading. I had explained in detail in the comment above the draft. You deleted it. I strongly object to the rejection of the draft. —Patricia (Talk) 15:13, 14 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Maliner is this Interviews? or Or is the independent and secondary source in-depth about the subject?here.—Patricia (Talk) 15:22, 14 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Patricia Mannerheim. Do you anything know about WP:Sigcov? Maliner (talk) 15:29, 14 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
MalinerYou didn't answer me. Sources are not just interviews. At the end of each conversation, the topic is discussed in detail in English. I know the resource coverage i know WP:Sigcov. You talk to me in a sarcastic tone. —Patricia (Talk) 15:34, 14 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Patricia Mannerheim. I'm an uninvolved editor and wanted to chime in. I agree that the draft is not ready for publication. The previous comments from Goldsztajn appear largely unaddressed.
  1. There are still sources that are interviews.
  2. There are multiple places where it still needs copyediting. E.g., in the lede, it reads ...and Veteran as a Marines Commando during the Iran–Iraq War. It should read ...and former marine commando during the...
  3. There are still several instances of sourcing to hamshahrionline.
Furthermore, I think you may want to consider how your own statements come off. You began this comment thread with You definitely didn't feel like reading. which comes off as a personal attack, or at the very least the failure to assume good faith. While I agree @Maliner could have phrased it better than Do you know anything about WP:Sigcov?, that doesn't excuse you then heavily implying that they are a jerk by saying that NPPers are, in contrast, not jerks. It's okay to be upset that the draft was declined, but being rude to Maliner is not going to change their mind, and gives others a reason to take you to WP:ANI, which isn't good for anybody. EducatedRedneck (talk) 15:56, 14 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Patricia Mannerheim. To be very straightforward. For me, the Iran Art source is paid spam, clearly generated for this Wikipedia article just 3 days after the previous decline. You are clearly here to promote Tehrani, per this link. Maliner (talk) 15:44, 14 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Maliner This is an accusation. You made a very big accusation against me. When an article is presented in a draft, it is a proof of good faith. —Patricia (Talk) 15:48, 14 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
I think you should desist now, as I believe that patrollers at English Wikipedia are not jerks at least. Maliner (talk) 15:48, 14 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
I am not saying anything new, but just repeating the words of another reviewer, Johannnes89. Please desist. Maliner (talk) 15:52, 14 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Goldsztajn (talk) 01:44, 27 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi Patricia Mannerheim - I took a look at the article and left some comments. I do not see any concern with the subject's notability. However, I think given the concerns that were raised earlier from other editors about the way you have created articles, it is worthwhile addressing these before returning the article to namespace. Your user page says you have a near native English level, but the article has some basic English mistakes. So maybe you're working too fast, or perhaps that's not quite an accurate representation of your level? If you have difficulty recognising English grammar issues such as the gendering of pronouns, it is very advisable not to publish articles before someone else with native English skills has had a look. I'd also encourage you not to use word for word machine translation for the generation of articles, unfortunately, it only creates more work for others to clean up. Kind regards, --Goldsztajn (talk) 02:45, 27 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
For your information, please note WP:CXT: "Also, they should not publish the machine translation as is, but should proofread the translation, which usually contains strange wording and errors." Goldsztajn (talk) 02:50, 27 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks MrGoldsztajn. Well, I'm going to stop writing articles for Swedish women. But your advice not to write the article discourages me. Everyone makes mistakes in writing sometimes. I was wrong many times. This is the principle of essay writing. Otherwise, Patricia never intends to trouble other respected editors. I must admit this article have many issues and thanks to you for pure support but You said that others have said that I don't know English! Maybe you are right. Maybe not, but I've done over 100 hard and easy articles, so full respect for all the editors, reviewers, and patrols. No more trouble from me to u For sure. Thanks again for your time. —Patricia (Talk) 08:25, 27 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Dear @Patricia Mannerheim - I'm sorry that my words are discouraging. That is not my intent. As I mentioned at the start, the subject of the article is notable and efforts to increase articles about Finnish and Swedish women architects is to me a very good exercise. My intention is to assist and in order to assist I think I want to ask you a genuine question - in the draft, can you see the basic grammatical error that is the result of the machine translation? There is not right or wrong answer to my question, but how you answer will tell me how I can help you best. Kind regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 09:13, 27 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Patricia Mannerheim, Significa liberdade, JoeNMLC, Ljleppan, and Goldsztajn: Patricia, it is with no little sadness and regret that I have accepted your WP:G7 speedy deletion of this draft. Please do let me know if I can be of any assistance for anything at all on the English language Wikipedia. Shirt58 (talk) 🦘 09:42, 27 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
