Speedy deletion nomination of Mana Dubai

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Mana Dubai requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company, corporation or organization that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. An article you recently created, Morne Jean, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Mariela Jácome, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Long Branch. Proposed deletion of Juozas Baikštys

edit

The article Juozas Baikštys has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article. The nominator also raised the following concern:

Merely appearing at the 2021 European Athletics Indoor Championships will not in of itself confer notability, unlikely to satisfy WP:SPORTCRIT, not opposed to draftification to give the creator more time to work on this but it can't stay in mainspace as is.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. 119.59.121.171 (talk) 20:59, 3 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Athlete articles

edit

Hi there! A lot of your new articles on athletes, such as Dániel Jankovics, are getting deleted because you have not added sufficient information or citations. Note that articles on living people will be automatically deleted if relevant citations proving the detail are not included. Furthermore, your articles are lacking a basic structure, such as reference sections, categories, or detail beyond one sentence.

When starting a stub article, you'll need to add sufficient detail and structure to avoid the article being deleted. Ghulam Abbas (hurdler) is an example of this, as it has relevant structure with sections and categories, includes the key points of subject notability, and provides multiple references for that material. It can take time to learn how these things are organised, so I'd suggest looking at existing articles on similar topics and copying their layout, or working on existing articles only until you are comfortable with Wikipedia's style. While it is tempting to work on new articles, creating new things does require a certain skillset beforehand. Good luck with your editing! SFB 15:18, 5 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Adding references to sources

edit

Hi, I noticed that you are adding URLs below the References heading in articles. That is not the proper way to cite a source. Please follow the guidance at User:Nick Moyes/Easier Referencing for Beginners. It explains where the reference should be placed and how to format it. Even if all you do is put the URL between <ref> and </ref> tags, the most important part is to put it immediately following the text that the ref supports. Thanks, and happy editing! Schazjmd (talk) 14:16, 2 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

I came here to say the same thing. It might also be useful to see if we can find some rather better local sources for village name meanings rather than Ekwall who is dubious at times. For example, Suckling tells us that Ashby in Suffolk was also known as Haskeby. How does that fit with Ekwall taking a modern place name from a map and telling us what the name must mean? Your edits

edit

Your enthusiasm for editing is welcome. However, you are doing it quite badly, and in doing so you are, in some cases, generating additional work for other editors who have to correct your edits. Just as one example.... at Polebrook you copied and pasted text verbatim from another site - which is a forbidden copyright violation; you failed to correct the grammar ("village's", not "villages"); you failed to notice that part of the text is meaningless out of context ("The site of the meeting-place is unknown.".... what "meeting-place"?); and you failed to format the reference correctly per WP:CS. Another one... you edited (correctly) that Monica Bandini had died, but you failed to provide a source, which is essential in recent deaths; you failed to format the death dates consistently, either in the text or the infobox; and you retained the "birth date and age" parameter in the infobox. All these are fairly minor errors, but they add up to a perception that you are editing too quickly, without care and attention to detail, and that clearly presents a problem for other editors. I have no interest in going through all your edits to check them - but you need to slow down, and take more care. Thanks. Ghmyrtle (talk) 06:55, 20 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:St Nicholas's Church, Arrington

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Draft:St Nicholas's Church, Arrington requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.achurchnearyou.com/church/13853/about-us/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. eviolite (talk) 17:42, 20 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello, were you using the draft as a holding pen for that content as you rewrote it/ worked off of it? The content was copyrighted and we're unfortunately not allowed to keep content around in that way. Hello JamCor. Re this edit, it's not clear how the comment can be considered vandalism. It is aimed at discussing the content of the article. While the user has not provided any sources to support their claim (though its already sourced in the article), it should not be the sole reason to remove the comment. Please go through WP:TPO for guidelines. If this was a mistake, don' worry, I have already restored it. Thanks -- Ab207 (talk) 09:56, 23 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Please don't copy content from other websites

edit

Hello. I am Moneytrees and I am a Wikipedia administrator. Text you find online is almost always copyrighted, and cannot be copied here; it's against the copyright policy of this website to do so. I've come across several copyright violations in your edits; I tagged All Saints Church, Adstone for speedy deletion as a copy of http://www.tinstaafl.co.uk/eandwhmi/northamptonshire/church%20pages/adstone.htm , I deleted Beckhithe as a copyright violation of https://www.getthedata.com/beckhithe/where-is-beckhithe , I removed most text on Church of St. John the Baptist, Achurch because it was copied from the Flickr source, and I removed almost all of the current content in your sandbox as it was copied from https://www.britainexpress.com/attractions.htm?attraction=4537 . All text must be written in your own words. The Wikipedia copyright policy and its application are complex matters, and you should not edit any more until you have taken the time to read and understand our copyright policy. There's a simplified version of our copyright rules at Wikipedia:FAQ/Copyright. Further copyright issues will result in you being blocked from editing. Your changes to Symphyotrichum lateriflorum

edit

Hello. Thank you for your changes to the Good Article Symphyotrichum lateriflorum. I'm sure they were done in good faith. However, I'm going to ask you to revert them. The reduction in length of the short description could make sense for most articles, but botanical articles typically have longer than normal short descriptions. The citation template changes where you added the volume are out of place because that field would be for the volume of the journal. The volume referenced in the title of both of those articles is for the "phases" of the articles themselves. The volume number is actually a part of the title, as written. Please revert. Thanks. —Eewilson (talk) 17:47, 18 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Citation bot

edit

Hi JamCor

I have noticed that you are making multiple requests every day to Citation bot, in each case to the same page: User:JamCor.

A far as I can see, that page change very little: just one or two additions per day.

That means that Citation bot is parseing the same pages multiple times per day. That isn't a problem in theory, but in practice Citation bot has limited capacity: about 3 pages per minutes on modest-sized articles, falling to less than one per minute or big articles with hundreds of refs.

The sums are simple. With 197 articles currently linked from User:JamCor, then 3 pages per minute is 180 pages per hour ... so with 197 pages, that is over an hour of bot time for each time you run this list through it; probably more, because your list contains some very large articles: 32 of the articles on your list are over 100,000 bytes of wikicode; England has 521 ref tags to check, and United Kingdom has 694.

So probably over 90 minutes of bot time to process the lot.

If you do that three times a day, then we are looking at 4.5 hours of the bot's time every day being on this one small list.

I and a bunch of other editors are using the bot trawl through big selected lists of article, trying to work systematically through articles. Other editors use the bot to clean up individual pages. All of these tasks are significantly slowed by having the bot spend 20% of its time repeatedly trawling the same articles.

So I wanted to ask you a favour. Please would you kindly consider a big reduction in the frequency with you ask the bot the scan your list? Once per week would more than enough to keep on top of changes to the articles, and once a month would be better.

Thanks in advance --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 15:43, 23 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

PS I should have said explicitly that I assume you were unaware of these issues with using the bot. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 23:22, 23 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Yes, sorry I wasn't, I'm taking a short wikibreak so I won't be using the bot this week. Happy editing :) JamCor (talk) 06:17, 24 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Can I take it that means you will be more restrained in bot use?
Hope you have a nice wikibreak. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 11:37, 24 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Welcome back from your wikbreak, jamCor.

I had hoped that on your return you might have excised some restraint in your use of Citation bot, but sadly that seems not to be the case.   The latest set of edits by Citation bot shows that you have just started yet another run of the bot processing pages linked from User:JamCor. The first edit[1] was at 17:03 UTC today.

Yesterday, you fed the bot all of the pages linked from User:JamCor: see these bot edits, where the first edit[2] was the 9th page processed, at 18:22 UTC yesterday.

When I initially wrote to you about this, above, I assumed that you were unaware of how much of bot's limited resources you were using. You assured me[3] that was indeed the case.

Yet now that you do know, you are still at it: clogging up the bot with repeated re-runs of the same set of pages. So what's going on?

Note that Citation bot has made only 1,894,524 edits since it began work in October 2008. Wikipedia currently has about 6.3 million articles, so even if every edit the bot had made was to a page it had not edited before, more than 2/3 of all articles have never been edited by the bot. The bot has no shortage of work; it is currently jammed up with so many big jobs that it won't even start on my latest list of articles specifically selected to have problems which the bot can fix (bare URL refs). So why are you continuing to feed the bot with articles which have ben processed dozens of times in your previous requests? Why not exercise a bit of self-restraint by running the bot on your list only once a month, and allow other pages to get their first pass on the bot? --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 17:48, 1 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
