Could you restore Maximilian von Götzen-Itúrbide? Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/House of Habsburg-Itúrbide did not voted for its deletion on the article House of Habsburg-Itúrbide. This article should go under its own deletion proposal. Thanks.--The Emperor's New Spy (talk) 00:50, 23 December 2012 (UTC)

I was wondering if you could take a look at WT:DYK and perhaps do the admin hook moving I'm requesting. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 16:14, 23 December 2012 (UTC)

Any suggestions on what to be done with this nomination? As noted, the nominator is blocked, but the nomination remains and the article has also been worked by others. Should we just add the red arrow to get a reviewer to look at it, or is there a reason it should be dropped? I'm unable to remember a like situation that I could use as precedence, but I haven't been around as long as you have. BlueMoonset (talk) 00:38, 25 December 2012 (UTC)

Hayao Miyazaki films

Hey Crisco. I see that you are very good at writing FAs for films and I am interested into making all the films by Hayao Miyazaki to FA status, specifically Spirited Away and Ponyo. Would you help me doing this? I don't know how to properly write a film article and may need your help. Thank you! — ΛΧΣ21 07:39, 25 December 2012 (UTC)

  • The guy who did Mononoke Hime? Not sure how much content I'll be able to contribute (especially since I don't read Japanese), but feel free to ask me any questions you want. My current project is likewise a pretty heavy film. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 07:49, 25 December 2012 (UTC)
    • Yes, him. Although, I wanna start with Spirited Away, ehich is my favourite film ever, and it has plenty of sources in english. And thatks for the offer, I will seek your help when needed :) Thanks. — ΛΧΣ21 00:26, 26 December 2012 (UTC)
      • I actually haven't seen that one yet. I'll have to track it down. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:32, 26 December 2012 (UTC)
        • Okay. I am gathering sources and asking any wikipedians who might wanna join. Also, do you think that this has any chance to be GA or FA? How should I structure it? I am gathering sources to try and expand it but it is a venezuela-only film who didn't enjoy a commercial release anywherem so I don't know. Thanks Crisco :) — ΛΧΣ21 06:42, 26 December 2012 (UTC)
          • Heck, those are the easiest I think, because you only have to concentrate on critical reviews from one country. For ideas, try and take a look at Ruma Maida, Terang Boelan, and ?. That's the standard layout, more or less. If you have enough sources it can be much longer than that. Also, the plot summary can be longer too. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 07:03, 26 December 2012 (UTC)
            • Oh well, then It'll be easier than expected. I will start a sandbox for it and start writing the article. As most sources are in spanish, I'll take some time translating them and making them ready for inclusion. I welcome any writing help from you, and I'll be glad to do a co-nom at FAC if we dvelop the article together :) I don't know much about film articles and may need a lot of help. Anyways, I'm not at a hurry. I currently have an album at FAC: Homework (Daft Punk album). You might wanna take a look... — ΛΧΣ21 07:47, 26 December 2012 (UTC)

Crisco, I was wondering whether you could take a look at this one and see whether it has improved to the point that the refimprove template you added to the article was ready to be removed, and if so, whether it was also to the point that it was ready to have its DYK approval restored (or if there were other issues that needed to be addressed). Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 15:35, 25 December 2012 (UTC)

A few things

Crisco, I've recently completed my tenth DYK prep set in a row (and staged the special occasion New Years hook in the next prep area). I've been trying to keep us a couple of days ahead, and I think I deserve a rest. Furthermore, the people whose hooks I've given final approval to over the past week or so need a chance to get their hooks promoted. If you're up to building the next prep set, I'd really appreciate it. I don't know what's happened to everyone else: I keep hoping someone else will step in, but no one does.

I'm also not entirely sure I'm being sufficiently critical: the Jalsha Movies hook currently in Prep 2 strikes me, on second look, as borderline (or possibly over the border) promotional, so if you could take another look at it, I'd greatly appreciate it. It's still in prep, but maybe not for long since the "backlog" header for queues is back on, and this is the only filled prep available.

Third, there have been a spate of nominations lately that seem to me to be lacking in the prose department, which includes structural deficiencies. I'm beginning to feel like the proverbial bad cop, and some of them have serious neutrality/POV issues as well: the articles on Armenian topics by a recent convert to DYK, Proudbolsahye, for example—one caught the attention of a brand new reviewer (Template:Did you know nominations/Murder of Sevag Balikci).

Finally, either I'm getting better or too picky as a reviewer, but I'm sending a lot of approved hooks back for more work. Sometimes it's problems with paragraph sourcing, inline sourcing for hooks, or bare refs; sometimes it's prose; sometimes it's overly close paraphrasing, and sometimes it's a combination of them.

Thanks for anything you can do to help, and have a very happy new year. (Let me know how 2013 looks, okay? You get to give it a test drive long before I do...) BlueMoonset (talk) 01:36, 30 December 2012 (UTC)

  • I'll take a look at Jalsha and a couple of the others and try and build some preps later. As for the rest... do it. When I get stressed out but want to stay productive I writer articles or watch Inuyasha with the Mrs; I'm sure you've got your own ways. This place'll eat you alive if you take it too seriously. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 02:01, 30 December 2012 (UTC)
  • As for being too critical... that's a Catch 22. No matter what, you'll get people calling you overcritical and you'll get people calling you undercritical. I think you should just be as critical as you feel you need to be. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 02:11, 30 December 2012 (UTC)
  • Thanks for the advice and the reminders. It's been a very long time (August) since I took an article to GA. I think I'm overdue to work one up, not that 30 isn't a reasonable number under my belt.
  • I've asked Nikkimaria if she'd be willing to move one of the hooks from Prep 2 to fill the (invisible) hole in Queue 3 from the hook she had to remove. In case she doesn't get to it in the next couple of hours, my suggestion was to move "the René de Segonzac hook from Prep 2 to Queue 3 to refill it to eight: I think placing it right after the Samuel N. Patterson House hook would be best in terms of balance within that set." If she hasn't been able to get to it in the next several hours, can you take care of it? I'll even find the replacement hook for P2, since I was the one who originally promoted the hook that had to be removed. BlueMoonset (talk) 02:57, 30 December 2012 (UTC)
  • Thanks for working on the prep set. It feels so good to see one taking shape where I'm not in charge. I was curious about why you took ALT2 of Template:Did you know nominations/Htou-tjyen‎ rather than ALT2a, which was approved: one reason I proposed 2a was because 2 was not a good approximation: half an inch is closer to one and a quarter centimeters than one and a third. If you don't like 2a, I'll change it to "one and a quarter", since it feels inappropriate to insist on my wording of "a bit over 1 cm" or to have "wide" before the parenthesis if you felt it didn't work, as I'm definitely not always right about hook wording flow. Your closing of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of cultural icons of England

Umm what? How was that consensus a keep? I believe there were five people wishing to delete it, and three to keep it. That too after the changes were made.

And no list except the England list was referenced. Unless those are also converted into a similar format, they are an absolute delete per WP:OR.

TheOriginalSoni (talk) 08:36, 1 January 2013 (UTC)

  • Per WP:AFD, admins don't just count !votes, but weigh the strength of arguments. "Inherently subjective" (four !votes) or "inherently OR" (two votes, including the nom) are not deletion criteria. They can be fixed easily by changing the scope, and that is not a task which AFD is meant for. Instead, it should be discussed on the articles' talk pages.
Think "List of items considered cultural icons of X", with referenced entries to reliable (super)sources. One "inherently subjective" list which has survived numerous AFDs, and which could be used as an example, is List of films considered the worst ever, which is inherently subjective but still notable and, as written, encyclopedic. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 09:38, 1 January 2013 (UTC)
Alright. I just needed to know which was the stronger of the arguments, as I thought you might be closing per that. And what about the other lists? The england one is alright, but the rest are still liable for deletion. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 09:50, 1 January 2013 (UTC)
  • Liable for massive clean up, agree, but a fairly universal definition of scope needs to be agreed on (how many sources have to consider something an icon of a nation, for example?). Theoretically List of cultural icons of X could be made for any country, just like Women in X and Human rights in X. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 09:52, 1 January 2013 (UTC)
How about staying with the same conditions that the England article has been using? TheOriginalSoni (talk) 09:58, 1 January 2013 (UTC)

Indo people...

Hey there - thanks for bringing in the mop and bucket but I'm sure that my recent revert fixed Indo people - Kwuaf change to that article was just a redirect not an actual move. ie, my previous version on this diff was actually correct. It fixed that page, but not the others. --Merbabu (talk) 01:43, 5 January 2013 (UTC)

Oh, you reverted yourself. :) --Merbabu (talk) 01:44, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
Oh nice - I'm off to Balmoral Beach in about the same. I think your move here is good too. Seems fine. Will keep checking the mega mess. :) --Merbabu (talk) 01:46, 5 January 2013 (UTC)

Hmmm, so this section Indo_people#Historical_overview starts with hat note links to Indos in pre-colonial history and Indos in colonial history. The first works fine, but the second confuses me. Where's that article? The links were inserted into Indo people (that came our wrong, but I digress) well before today's dramas, but the second link appears to be new. hmmm. Did we lose an article? --Merbabu (talk) 01:57, 5 January 2013 (UTC)

OK, so it's still a bit murky but...

...I think I've worked it out:

There were three existing articles that were moved or redirected - I've listed them below under their original/pre-today names in bold. I've gone through each of the history pages and checked from which page Kwuaf first moved each article. Essentially my recommendation/request is that numbers 2 & 3 be restored to the original title/location (in bold) - number 1 is already done:

  1. Indo people - correctly restored to original name and content. All good.
  2. Indos in pre-colonial history - article history. Page and content still at "Pre-colonial history of Indonesia"
  3. Indos in colonial history - Article history Content has been correctly restored (check the page sizes), however, it's been restored incorrectly to "Indos in colonial history" where is currently resides. (ie, note the missing "pre")

Perhaps the best way is to fix 3 first, so it clears way to restore 2. Clear as mud? :) --Merbabu (talk) 03:15, 5 January 2013 (UTC)

At the risk of bugging you when you have not quite finished, No. 2 above is not yet back to it's original location. :) thanks!!! --Merbabu (talk) 09:44, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
Perhaps a polite but firm suggestion/request/demand be given to the editor explaining that this made a big mess, and that such moves need prior agreement after discussion. :) And an encouraging one. I cannot take issue with his most recent edits to Indo people. --Merbabu (talk) 09:53, 5 January 2013 (UTC)

DYK promotions needed

Crisco, the queues are empty, and as we're on the new 3/day schedule, a promotion is needed within the next four hours or so or our first 8-hour set gets extended. I'm hoping you can promote at least one. I've done the next three prep sets, but Lord Roem started the fourth (and with a nearly identical picture to one I'd just used: in fact, I was deciding between the two, and decided that the one I went with on ((prep|4}} was the better of the two), so I didn't do that one, since I didn't want it to seem like I was building nearly adjacent sets around two green mounds.

Thanks for anything you can do to break the log jam; with 3/day, we need more frequent admin prep promotions. I'm still blown away by the fact that we have 128 approved hooks, and only 48 open slots between the six empty queues and one nearly empty prep area. Yikes. BlueMoonset (talk) 03:50, 6 January 2013 (UTC)

  • Ooh, be careful then. Best of luck with the connection; you probably shouldn't risk more than one in that case. If I don't see anything in the next half hour or so, I may put a note on the DYK talk page, to give an extra hour's warning before the bot puts up its own, in case there are any US Wikipedians who might call it a night before the bot warning is posted. BlueMoonset (talk) 04:33, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
  • I'll happily take two! :-) Many thanks! (If the bot doesn't handle the images, then we may be in trouble. I'll definitely be asleep by then, and unable to raise the alarm.) BlueMoonset (talk) 04:42, 6 January 2013 (UTC)

Bogor Heritage

Hello,

Can you tell me how it might be possible for our Bogor Heritage project to work with or even within the Indonesia project? I know you have interests in descendant projects. A sub-project is helpful because of course we can share documentation, translations, and of course the articles we will be working on are very relevant. Perhaps the project can be placed at Indonesia/Bogor/Heritage ?

Please visit our proposal and let us know if you have any thoughts. WikiProject Bogor Heritage Alex Rollin (talk) 08:07, 6 January 2013 (UTC)

AfD closure

I noticed that you closed the Victoria Leigh Soto AfD discussion with the text "Closing this a little early as it is quite clear that an out-and-out deletion is not going to happen, and AFD is not for the creation / retargeting of redirects." I'd like to request that you either re-open it and allow it to run its full course, or ask for some other administrators opinions, as I haven't seen an early close for no consensus before. The main reason I'm asking this is because the article really looks like it fails BIO1E, regardless of VICTIM or other policies, and the, in my opinion, large consensus is that a redirect is more appropriate for now. Also, it is an acceptable and enforceable outcome of an AfD to have a redirect made. I'd like to request that the AfD be at the very least reevaluated by you or another administrator.

Addendum: You in your closing statement refered further consideration to the talkpage, yet it's better to keep the discussion on the AfD page until the official closing would have occurred. That way editors can continue arguments without having to copy-paste or other things. Plus, the reason you gave for moving the discussion to the talkpage is, as quoted above, that AfD isn't for redirects. AfD outcomes can be redirects, and that's enforceable if the consensus is there for a redirect (which I believe there is in this case).

Thanks, gwickwiretalkedits 21:31, 6 January 2013 (UTC)

  • AFD is, per WP:AFD, "where Wikipedians discuss whether an article should be deleted" (emphasis mine), although various outcomes can happen; the AFD in question was clearly already outside the scope of AFD. That's one. You should refer to my full closing statement, in which I make it quite clear that, although the number of redirect !votes is indeed greater, the keep !votes also have merit which, although not enough to sway it to keep, were enough to give me pause. As for "early" close, that appears to have been a misstatement: the AFD opened on 22 December and it was closed on 6 January, 15 days later. I'll open the redirect discussion if you are not willing — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:02, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
The AfD was opened because Drmies felt the article should have been deleted. However, other editors felt a redirect was better. Therefore, it is not outside the scope of AfD. The AfD was actually relisted late on December 30th, so it shouldn't have been closed until tomorrow (or 1 hr from now UTC) without a good reason. There's no redirect discussion needed, as the arguments for keep in the discussion were largely pushed by one editor (Ahonnemos [sp]) and just piggybacked by others, and were trumped by BLP/BIO 1E policy by many other editors favoring redirect. I'd request you take another look at the AfD please, and if you still feel there is no consensus defaulting to keep I'll go open a discussion. gwickwiretalkedits 23:11, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
  • When opened, no, but when there is only two or three delete !vote after some thirty or forty !votes it's clear that deletion is clearly not going to happen. You can, under WP:BOLD, redirect it now and then do a BRD. As for the keep !votes, I do not share your opinion on the merits of said votes (excluding the assertion that BLP1E could not apply because the subject is dead; BLP and related topics [correctly] apply to the recently deceased). Mercy's statement "The scholarship fund, etc., set up further add to her notability" resonates, and Ahnoneemoos' (although you dislike it) is fairly well argued — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:28, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
Okay :) Thanks for relooking at it. I'll spend some time thinking about whether or not it's better to redirect then discuss or even try to discuss it. Thanks again, sorry if I seemed a bit crabby, I was operating on little sleep. gwickwiretalkedits 02:39, 7 January 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for adding the ref on Jurassic Park article

Hi, Crisco, a fellow SE Asian. I also live in Bangkok, Hanoi, Jarkara Time Zone, guess where I live. :D

Thanks for adding the reference for Jurassic Park article. I thought the call would go unnoticed. I assume you were the core crew who got it to FA? If so, how would you like to format names in the article? "Last name, first name" or "first name last name"? Anthonydraco (talk) 08:30, 7 January 2013 (UTC)

After checking a few more things. I realized that what've posted above are all wrong. XD ^ Anthonydraco (talk) 08:35, 7 January 2013 (UTC)
  • (ec) Nope, as I noted on the WikiProject talk page the information was all in the history. I think, for references at least, the standard is last name, first name (even with Indonesian or Thai names, which is... not exactly applicable). The article needs a lot of work right now though, including referencing and prose polishing. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 08:37, 7 January 2013 (UTC)

45 minutes to DYK update, and no queues loaded

Crisco, I think I've missed you for the night, but if not, there's nothing in the DYK queue and a single prep set ready to go; if you are around and can promote it, that would be great. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 15:16, 7 January 2013 (UTC)

  • Thanks for checking! Yes, I didn't want all my eggs in one basket, and saw that Orlady was actively editing; she was able to make the promotion. I'm building prep sets right now. One of the hooks I considered was Template:Did you know nominations/Sumangali (child labour); it has not one but two approvals, but I'm wondering whether the article is sufficiently neutral, so I'm holding off for now. Can I ask you to check when you get the chance? It looks like an important topic, but neutrality is also necessary in DYK. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 17:36, 7 January 2013 (UTC)
  • Copyedited, looks fairly NPOV (especially compared to the other sources online). I haven't seen any RSes which are pro-sumangali, so we can't exactly push for that to be included. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 22:33, 7 January 2013 (UTC)
  • Thank you. I wanted to the opinion of someone who's been around for a while. I think it was maybe the use of the word "scheme" that made me wonder. I didn't think there would be pro-"sumangali" sources, and I certainly didn't think WP:UNDUE would require that there be an emphasis on them in any case. I'll feel free to promote it going forward. I'm doing a GA review of Jacob's Ladder (film). Is the image File:Head_VI_(1949).JPG, already used at Francis Bacon (painter), fair use in it? And.. after the edit conflict... I tried to add PD 1923 File:Swami Vivekananda 1893 Scanned Image.jpg.. can you please add this image? Thanks! --Tito Dutta (talk) 15:46, 9 January 2013 (UTC)

Thanks, I asked it there and another reviewer told: If it is fixed quickly, then it would be possible to get this scheduled for his birthday. . Please tell me if I need to do anything from my side, though a bit tired after typing a "tough" Bengali piece in Wikisource! --Tito Dutta (talk) 15:59, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
Crisco, can you please check this? Right now, the image is only in the Swami Vivekananda template at the bottom, and I don't think that qualifies under DYK as being in the article. If not, is there any problem with adding the image to the article while it's also in the template? BlueMoonset (talk) 18:14, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
Done. I replicated the photo in the article's infobox. More images are available at Commons, though not as captivating as this one. Thank you, Poeticbent talk 18:24, 9 January 2013 (UTC)

  • As have I. Watchlisted the DYK nom page. I suggest, if you want this to run on the twelfth, using a different image as this discussion may or may not be completed before then. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:19, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
It may be completed, if you withdraw the nomination.... he he!   Jokes apart. I have replied there at Commons) (link just above). I am adding a black and white image there at DYK! --Tito Dutta (talk) 23:31, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
New reply there at Commons page, Commons file description improved, DYK image replaced the image you mentioned (though not "original"). That's the latest update! --Tito Dutta (talk) 23:52, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
Thanks, can you remember this old talk? Anyway, I also thought of nominating that painting/photograph for deletion, since I could not understand if that has been adapted from the 1893 poster, if so, source and licence which say "own work" etc are wrong. And if it is really their own work (own creation), then it does not have historical importance. The only possibility remained the image is a different one which I could not locate. --Tito Dutta (talk) 00:22, 10 January 2013 (UTC)
  • After looking at it I do. As for the "painting", it seems pretty clearly adapted from the poster and is probably PD, but rather useless compared to other files we have. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:24, 10 January 2013 (UTC)
An idea came to my mind which I did not post there because it could infuriate you, upload this image as a new version of that image, this image has some historical value, specially the words in the image. It depends on you. I'll check it again after 1-2 day(s)
I am worried about the colour scanned image and is used in more than 3 languages Wikipedias and 50+ pages, templates etc. Here (link above) too "a colour photo" is mentioned, I don't know which one, multiple colour images of Vivekananda was taken in 1893. Do you want the Bengali book? --Tito Dutta (talk) 00:56, 10 January 2013 (UTC)
  • I probably wouldn't be able to read it. Okay, this is a good link. It clearly shows that the colour image was used as a poster, and the contextual information (fonts, spellings) looks about right. As the posters would have been on display in 1893, this is definitely PD. I'll withdraw the one RFD. The second... well, this poster could be uploaded separately, I think, as it's still not a painting — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:14, 10 January 2013 (UTC)
Can you re-add the color image in DYK (if it is already not too late and if there is not any other issue) after archiving that DR page! You can see a sample close here Thanks! --Tito Dutta (talk) 02:02, 10 January 2013 (UTC)

Crisco, this one's kind of stuck: Aaron nominated it a couple of days too late, but it isn't his article, it's someone else who, as far as I can tell, has never had a DYK before. I'd like to ask you to decide whether to give it an exception or an X; I'm a little too annoyed at Aaron right now to be able to properly weigh those two factors. Thank you. DYK POV

Crisco, I'd like to ask you a favor. I think I'm missing the forest for the trees (or vice versa) on a number of Proudbolsahye's (talk) articles. There have been issues of neutrality and close paraphrasing, and I'm not always happy with the way facts are presented: there seem to be holes or assumptions. At this point, I think these articles need a fresh set of eyes, because I haven't been giving them the attention they need, mostly because I'm not sure what really needs to be done or said.

The first article, nominated by Yerevanci, is Pangaltı Armenian Cemetery. (The rest have been self-nominated.) Since it was nominated, most of its text has been duplicated in the table of notable properties in Confiscated Armenian Properties in Turkey; should it be merged at this point? The latter article, however, seems to have issues in how it uses the numbers: in addition to the properties that have been restored, another set seems to be in the process of being restored, etc. (See its talk page for a discussion of some of the issues.) I'm not sure percentages should be used, since they're interpretations of what the categories mean, which may affect neutrality. I'd like to have someone with a good sense of things look over her submitted articles—and not just these two—for POV. (The Hagop Vahram Çerçiyan article was the one which had the notable close paraphrasing. This was one of the rare English sources, and it was quite striking before fixes were made. That said, I think it's an interesting article, but someone else needs to look at it now.)

Thanks for giving this your attention, if you can. I haven't had a lot of experience on judging when POV issues have been dealt with, or where the line is, really. BlueMoonset (talk) 03:35, 13 January 2013 (UTC)

  • For the merge question, I'd argue against that as the cemetery is likely notable on its own. The other one... let's not have that. The entire subject area is rife with POV — Crisco 1492 (talk) 04:33, 13 January 2013 (UTC)
  • I'll leave it to you to straighten out then. Thanks for clarifying about the merge; be sure to note that I was on the wrong track when you respond to the Cemetery template. BlueMoonset (talk) 05:21, 13 January 2013 (UTC)
