Hêbê Debate at the European Parliament: Wikipedia - Truth by Consensus?
editI see that you are a prolific Wikipedia editor! Do you live in Brussels by any chance?
I ask, because there is a debate planned on the usefulness and reliability of Wikipedia at the European Parliament in Brussels on Monday evening, September 28th. If you are interested in either debating the subject or simply attending as an audience member, you can register on http://www.asbl-hebe.eu.
For more info, I'd be happy to help, just email hebe-debates@asbl-hebe.eu.
We would be happy to have you there!
Kindest regards,
HêbêDeb (talk) 17:37, 18 September 2009 (UTC)
- Sorry, I do not live close to Brussels, going to Brussels would take me too much time, to be honest... But thank you for the information. Greetings, Belgian man (talk) 19:09, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
Request for help, please
editGreetings Belgian man, would you be so kind to help me create an article about Confucius in Nauruan Wikipedia? Please. It's about a Chinese philosopher and is listed as one of the articles every Wikipedia should have. You can shorten it to contain only the basic information, one sentence would be enough. I hope, you could help. Thanks a lot, and best regards. --Amaqqut (talk) 13:12, 17 October 2009 (UTC)
- Sorry Amaqqut, but I don't write any article on the Nauruan Wikipedia until I have more sources about the vocabulary and grammar of the language. You could ask someone with better knowledge of the language, but they are hard to find. Greetings, Belgian man (talk) 10:02, 18 October 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you for your answer:)--Amaqqut (talk) 13:48, 18 October 2009 (UTC)
Belle Air flights to Prishtina International Airport
editHi there, I saw that you reverted by change for Belle Air flights to PRN. Could you please have a look at my reasoning here. I shall wait to hear from you before making any changes. Many thanks, Kosovar (talk) 11:03, 1 March 2010 (UTC)

- Hi Belgian man, just a note to let you know that I wrote back again there. Kosovar (talk) 17:42, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

What is a language?
editHello, Belgian man! I've stumbled over your name by the discussion about the flag of Bikini. An impressing expression ... And now I'd like to know who or what determines what is a language effectively. Is this not still more or less politics? Hellsepp 11:27, 3 May 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hellsepp (talk • contribs)
- What expression do you mean?
- An institution like SIL doesn't bother about politics at all: it considers very many regional varieties as separate languages. Since I use Ethnologue as a reference in much cases, I wouldn't say I care much about politics either. However, politics indeed continue influencing the perception of what is a language and what not strongly (for exemple in France, where other languages than French are not recognised at all). Which is of course very dangerous for the survival of minority languages...Belgian man (talk) 18:42, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
Roman Tmetuchl International Airport
editHello Belgian Man. As a note, the Palau International Airport was never renamed Roman Tmetuchl International Airport. There was a bill introduced in the senate but it never became law. The current name for the airport is still Palau International Airport. I happened to stumble on this but not being a very familiar with Wikipedia I did not know how to correct the error. You are now a Reviewer
editHello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

editThe info on ASN has changed since I used it as a ref. Please remember WP:AGF in your edit summaries. Mjroots (talk) 10:31, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
- Okay. Rather strange ASN still has Semendua (like we spell it) as place of origin, as far as I know, this is the only source to mention that city in this whole story. Greetings, Belgian man (talk) 17:54, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
Airport names
editSalut Belgian man. Here's something a few of us are working on to try and make sense out of (and put an end, hopefully, to the endless disagreements over) airport names. Your input will be most welcome. Merci! jasepl (talk) 16:09, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

Riga airport
editPlease stop reverting - several users obviously disagree. If you want to talk start a disccusion on talk page instead of someone's sandbox (I don't see any discussion on this or even airports involved being mentioned). As far as I see the article now uses official names of airprts, while you are pushing for names of settlements they are in. If I was trying to figure out where I was going I would rather like to find article on the airport rather than settlement. ~~Xil (talk) 17:34, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
- I will await a consensus for what concerns Riga. Using Milan for Bergamo or Treviso for Venice is simply advertising for Ryanair. Greetings, Belgian man (talk) 13:01, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
- Just my two cents - I think you risk sacrifacing readers' needs in your atempt to avoid comercialization. You might as well wikilink to all airports, so people can look themselves, where this flight would take them. Because, for example, Bergamo gives you article on town, not an airport. And one probably would need to know the name of airport (Orio al Serio) to find article on it, "Ryanair marketing" however readily gives the name and even article on airport names it "Milan" in infobox, so you probably can somehow get from there to Milan. Riga airport also is not in Riga - what are you going to do about it ? Name it after the little municipality it is in, which probably will leave even Rigans confused ? ~~Xil (talk) 15:18, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
- Mm, there is a little difference. Riga's airport was constructed as Riga's airport, whereas Bergamo's airport was constructed as an airport to serve Bergamo, and hasn't even changed its name for marketing purposes. Belgian man (talk) 08:04, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

Hello and happy new year!
editI have just left you a message on Meta, I hope you can find some spare time to read it. Happy New Year and best wishes for 2011. Best regards, Claudi Balaguer/Capsot (talk) 22:00, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

- Hi, I hope you are doing fine. I wanted to let you know of the progress of our project ([1]) and well if you are available these days we will be glad to have you around to talk about your experience(s) with small/minorized language wikipedias (Amical should take care of the expenses of your travel and stay) or your experience with the Incubator. Our main problem is your geographical location (because our budget is limited, unfortunately...) and thus I hope you live in Andorra right now. So, please contact me, if you can via e-mail from the Catalan Viquipèdia (I don't know how to do it but I guess you can). Take care! Fins aviat, Claudi/Capsot (talk) 09:33, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

- Capsot, toutes mes excuses.

May I ask you some help?
editHello, I'm a Belgian citizen and I found you in the "Belgian page", I would like to ask you some help concerning a wikipedia article about the artist ben heine (www.benheine.com). Please let me know how I can do to improve this article or to have someone do it as I really find it difficult to edit stuff properly on Wikipedia... Caring-writer (talk)
I've been following Ben Heine's work for many years, but I noticed that the current article is a text that appeared on Wikipedia in 2006 and that reflects what he did in that time only. He has totally changed and evolved. He has made many more things since then. He is a globally appreciated artist. There aren't so many criticisms about him. The article isn't fair, it REALLY NEEDS MANY UPDATES and contains strong mistakes about the artist. Many well known national newspapers and magazines have talked about him and his work recently (see non exhaustive list here below), none of them is even mentioned in the current article. He has stopped making political art since more than 2 years. Please just consider these publications, most of them are a few days/weeks old only... Daily Mail, The Telegraph, El Pais, Repubblica, De Standaard... These AREN'T blogs!!! These are national papers read by millions of people.
Please have a look to the following list of errors in the current article (which I detailed here below, and which I'll mention to several other admins if needed and if not taken into account).
List of important errors in the current article about Ben Heine:
1) Ben isn't a political artist anymore, it's true he used to make political art accusing Israel of "crimes against humanity", but he stopped making such illustrations in 2009 and wrote an "[[open letter to the Jewish Community]]" in December 2010 apologizing about his past behavior (saying it was the influences of his studies in Journalism. Parts of his final assignment talked about the "limits of freedom of expression in cartoons"). In this letter, he also firmly condemned the infamous Iranian Holocaust cartoon contest and said he was feeling deeply guilty about it. Here is the letter translated in English (Google translator). Ben doesn't deny the Holocaust, he visited Auschwitz Birkenau and feels sincerely sorry about the past suffering of the Jewish community.
2) Ben doesn't contribute to these websites anymore: DonQuichotte, MWC News, Rebelion, Tlaxcala, Irancartoon, Syriacartoon, Arabcartoon, Persiancartoon, Karikaturevi, Azercartoon, Dessin d'humour, National Caricaturist Network (Ben has explicitly asked these sites to remove all his illustrations from their platforms)
3) Ben doesn't collaborate with "La Libre Belgique" Anymore. Only 4 or 5 of his old cartoons have been published in this newspaper (in 2006 and 2007).
4) Pencil Vs Camera is not just a "little detail" in his biography, it is a creative and original series that has generated some huge reactions on the web and in the written press (see a non exhaustive list below). It is such an innovation that several TV channels around the world have also talked about it: Globo - Brazil, TV Brussel - Belgium, and many others). Same for "Digital Circlism"...
5) "Pere Ubu" (one of the main newspapers that clearly accused Heine in Belgium has removed the accusation from their site
6) Most of the links in the "notes" section (expecially the url's linking to images on Ben's blog) do not work...
7) Ben removed from his sites (blog, flickr, Deviantart and official site) all his cartoons accusing Israel or any Israeli person (Avigdor Lieberman...).
8) He didn't participate "recently" to the Kruger Workshop. This event happened in 2006!
So, I really hope you'll aknowledge that 90% of the article is based on inaccurate facts...
I would like to see a real neutral article about that artist.

Ben Heine (born 12 June 1983 in Abidjan, Ivory coast) is a Belgian multidisciplinary artist. He is internationally known for his original series "Pencil Vs Camera" and "Digital Circlism". Ben has stopped doing political art since 2009.
He has a degree in journalism (Brussels). He also briefly studied graphic arts and sculpture (one year in Hastings, England) but considers himself a self-taught artist.
Art
editPencil Vs Camera
editThis is a concept Heine invented in 2010. Heine says it is the result of a long graphic exploration and a logic consequence of his artistic evolution. "Pencil Vs Camera" mixes drawing and photography, imagination and reality through illusion and surrealism. He usually focuses on architecture, portraits, and animals. Among many others, the main themes approached in "Pencil Vs Camera" are love and friendship.
Digital Circlism
editThis is a concept Heine invented in 2010. It is a mix between Pop Art and Pointillism. In this series, Heine usually makes portraits of celebrities with digital tools using flat circles on a black background. Each circle has a single color and a single tone.
Influences
editHeine says he has been deeply influenced by German Expressionism, Belgian Surrealism, American Pop Art and Social Realism.
Publications
editHeine is represented by several established press agencies everywhere in the world. List of publications
interviews
editExhibitions
editHeine is represented by several established art galeries in Belgium and abroad (UK and USA) and is sponsored by "Samsung Imaging". So far, He has exhibited his creations in Belgium, Great Britain, Turkey, Romania, France, Canada, USA, Germany, Brazil, South Korea and Spain.
Views on Israel
editBen used to make political art accusing Israel of crimes against humanity, he stopped making such illustrations in 2009 and wrote an "[[open letter to the Jewish Community]]" in 2011 apologizing about his past behavior.
Attempt to change Naura from DAB to REDIRECT
editMy dreadful attempt to change Naura from DAB to REDIRECT was not vandalism, just my misunderstanding of what needed to be done and my 3 a.m. interpretation of WP:2DAB. But thanks to the UNDO feature, everything can be easily fixed. (I realize now that I should have put a note on the talk page outlining my rationale; a good thing for me to note for future use.) After sleeping on it, (I promise I won't edit Wikipedia in the middle of the night again) I realize that the red link entries have a couple of pages other than DAB pages that link to them (another thing I will note to look at with my eyes open in the future). So having established that my edit was a bad idea, I will go ahead and make a couple of edits that I am sure won't meet with controversy. Thank you, for your time and consideration. JMax (Okay, tell me. What'd I do this time?) 17:48, 13 April 2011 (UTC)
- Okay, thank you for clarification effort, no problem. Greetings, Gertjan R 13:42, 14 April 2011 (UTC)
References in destination lists
editI noticed you removed references to destinations at some airports. The only time that references are not necessary is when the airline already flies to that city. References are necessary is when an airline is launching service to a new city. All those references you removed are new services that needs to be sourced to prevent vandalism. You can then remove those reference once the airline has officially launched service to that city. Thanks! Snoozlepet (talk) 05:17, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
- Okay, no problem, I will keep references about future destinations. Greetings, Gertjan R 07:19, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
London Southend Airport
editHi. Can you please help? This IP (120.63.155.29) continues to say that London Southend Airport is NOT a London airport...instead of listing the destination as "Southend-on-the-Sea". Is it really? Snoozlepet (talk) 20:49, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
- I think it should really be London-Southend indeed, as the airport is called London Southend Airport and serves London in the first place... Greetings and a happy New Year, Gertjan R 09:26, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
Tel Aviv airports
editHi there. Can you explain to this user (Friends147) that Tel Aviv need disambiguation. He removed the disambiguation at quite a few airport pages. There is also passenger service at SDV Airport as well. Thanks and happy new year! Snoozlepet (talk) 15:36, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
- I will have a look at it. I totally agree that it should be Tel Aviv-Ben Gurion everywhere. (Same thing with, among others, Georgetown, Kingston, Kinshasa, Krasnoyarsk and Nairobi — there's still some work to do with those as well.) Greetings, Gertjan R 09:31, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
Destinations
editDestinations are written in their standard form, as you can check from any other airport pages, such as Galeao Airport or Miami International Airport. Jetstreamer (talk) 19:52, 26 February 2012 (UTC)
- If that "standard form" is used on those other pages, it should be changed there as well: we try to give correct information. I removed your silly template and changed the headline. Gertjan R 00:17, 27 February 2012 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for March 8
editHi. When you recently edited Ostend-Bruges International Airport, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page National Airlines (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 10:59, 8 March 2012 (UTC)

editHello, Gertjan R. Thank you for your friendly welcome to Dutch Wikipedia. I speak Dutch only falteringly and I write it with difficulty, but I read it well enough to be able to glean information from articles. I went on to Dutch WP to set up a link to my article on Aagje Vanwalleghem. I was sad to learn of her retirement and this spurred me to finish and publish it. I used to visit Belgium a lot, but I am now old and in poor health, so I travel electronically. Best wishes. LynwoodF (talk) 21:55, 7 April 2012 (UTC)
- Hello Lynwood,
- No problem, thank you for your friendly message! It is indeed sad that Vanwalleghem decided to quit gymnastics.

I know this is an own work, but what license would you like to use for it? User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 08:37, 30 May 2012 (UTC)
- The default own work licence, as used on Commons? It is equal to me. Please note that the image is not that accurate, I think I wouldn't use it myself anymore (on the articles on the villages I wrote on the Dutch Wikipedia, for example). Greetings, Gertjan R 00:16, 17 June 2012 (UTC)
- Since it was only used on one page, I went ahead and removed it. If you need the image back, let me know and I can restore it. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 03:37, 17 June 2012 (UTC)

An extended version of my edit summary line: It is easily possible to write serveral other administrative, historical or statistical entities Deutschnofen is belonging to into the introduction. Apart from the province, the region and the state, we have for example the district Salten-Schlern, the Euroregion Tyrol–South Tyrol–Trentino, Northeast Italy, the European Union and so on. But in my view, it's not the point of an introduction to enumerate as many of these entities as possible, but to help the reader to locate the municipality by mentioning those entities they might know and the most important ones. South Tyrol and northern Italy are surely helpful and well known, but Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol? I have strong doubts.
Regarding the distance to Trento: Well, Bolzano is the capital of South Tyrol, that is probably good reference point, but it would be more helpful if we took Munich, Venice and Milan instead of Trento... --Mai-Sachme (talk) 09:33, 17 June 2012 (UTC)
na.wiki logo
editI would like for you to look at https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=37674 and express your thoughts. The problem is that at that wiki, the English logo is used and not the Narauan one. I would like for the logo to be pointing to the Commons image, and not local. Either way, a local language logo will be finally used, but the main question is use Commons or stick with local. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 04:28, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
Albanian help needed
editHello Gertjan R., I'm contacting you because we need some Albanian translators to help with the deployment of the new VisualEditor on sq.wikipedia. There are help pages, user guides, and description pages that need translating, as well as the interface itself. The translating work is going on over on MediaWiki: Translation Central. I also need help with a personal message for the Albanian Wikipedians. If you are able to help in any way, either reply here, or head over to TranslationCentral. New Challenge for Oceania and Australia
editHi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Oceania/The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia/The 5000 Challenge are up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. The Australia challenge would feed into the wider region one and potentially New Zealand could have a smaller challenge too. The main goal is content improvement, tackling stale old stubs and important content and improving sourcing/making more consistent but new articles are also welcome if sourced. I understand that this is a big goal for regular editors, especially being summertime where you are, but if you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Oceania and Australia like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1700 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for the region but fuelled by a series of contests to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. The Africa contest scaled worldwide would naturally provide great benefits to Oceania countries, particularly Australia and attract new editors. I would like some support from existing editors here to get the Challenges off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile and potentially bring about hundreds of improvements in a few weeks through a contest! Cheers.♦ --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:12, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of België (disambiguation)
editIf this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on België (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an orphaned disambiguation page which either
- disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
- disambiguates zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
- is a redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.
Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 21:25, 6 April 2020 (UTC)
