LS2004 templates
editHi there. I have noticed that you have created lot of templates for specific instances of Lok Sabha election results. Each of these is likely to be used in only 1 page, since it has very specific information for each constituency.
Templates are for the primary purpose of solving a general purpose repeated information formatting. This is not the case with your templates.
Hence, I would suggest that ALL the templates are deleted (by blanking - or request to admin) - and include the full information the destination page itself. Please.
Finally, I would also like to point out giving detail stats like this is not appropriate for an encyclopedia. Hence, it may be possible such pages are deleted by the administrators. Kindly do the needful. VasuVR (talk, contribs) 09:16, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
- In continuation of above, I have posted a message in the Wikiproject India Noticeboard. Please review the same and take appropriate action related to above mentioned templates. Specifically, would like you to:
- stop creating these new templates
- add the same information and formatting to the individual page where the information is required
- do the same for all templates (copy info to the page from the template) you have already created
- request to delete the template by blanking it and applying appropriate process of WP:TFD
Let us keep the high standards for India related information that we want to present in this encyclopedia, by following the guidelines for templates and content. VasuVR (talk, contribs) 12:23, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
VasuVR, I acknowledge your comments. This is the 1st time I have updated wikipedia, and I had copied the format/template idea from another page (Indian general elections, 2004-Andhra Pradesh). I had not noticed your comments earlier until I came about your post Wikipedia talk:Noticeboard for India-related topics just now. Apologies for any confusion, it was genuine mistake. I guess its a learning experience. --Aditya.krishnan.82 (talk) 11:32, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
- No problem. Glad to give guidance anytime. In fact, through your additions we are hopefully going to cleanup some old edits that are not appropriate (templates for trivial data). So, there are always good things to learn for us and improvements that we collectively make. Please see Trivia added to single use templates for latest updates and steps regarding this issue. If you have any question on the technicalities or understanding what is done in this situation, feel free to reply here and post a talkback like the last time. Thanks. VasuVR (talk, contribs) 11:49, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the support. I am keen to contribute towards building Wikipedia's knowledge as it has provided me with answers for so many different things over the last few years... a small token of my appreciation would be to help it grow. I appreciate you taking the time to explain things so clearly; as of now, I am still learning the right stuff by looking at code from other pages. Welcome
editI got your e-mail. We are glad you have decided to join the contributors list. I checked your contributions. You are off to a great start. I have moved all the 2004 state-level general election result articles to new titles. For example, Indian general election in Tamil Nadu, 2004. You can leave the categories just the way it is for now. There are not many articles to worry about that now. We can always go back to cleanup the categories at a later time. With the general elections coming in 2009, it is best we start preparing for it now. Manual of style is the guide to how to contribute here. You can also check out howwikipediaworks.com. Generally, I check out other articles as a reference while doing anything here. The idea is be as consistent as possible. For the article moves I did, I referred to United States presidential election, 2008 and United States presidential election in New Hampshire, 2008. If you need any help, e-mail me or leave a message on my talk page.

Templates
editAditya,
I noticed that your templates have been nominated for deletion since they have actual values. Templates must be written to be re-usable. For example, you will need to use place holders like, {{{party1|}}}, {{{candidate1|}}}, {{{votes1|}}} that can be supplied with values and can be re-used for different states and election articles. See an example WP:IIJ . If you want to help out, I can create a generic template for you. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 09:19, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
- Hi Ganesh, I had copied the template from an existing page (Indian general elections, 2004-Andhra Pradesh). VasuVR has already corrected me there (see above) and has moved content from the templates into the main article itself. I guess it was a case of copying from the wrong source. I understand the concept of templates now and will be more careful in future. Thanks. Aditya.krishnan.82 (talk, contribs) 10:38, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of CVOTER
editA tag has been placed on CVOTER requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.) or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. - Noted your comments on this discussion. We meet again on template issues. I suggest that you start using your sandbox for setting up these kinds of nascent content / templates. Later, when they are closer to a finished item, create the actual page / template. For example, you could have User:Aditya.krishnan.82/BijuJanataDal as the sandbox for this template and move it to the Template namespace later. VasuVR (talk, contribs) 15:20, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
- Hi Vasu. Actually, there isn't that much more I can add to the Template to be honest. As I mentioned, I was more interested in the subpages /meta/color and /meta/shortname These subpages are required for the party to be added into {{Infobox election}} infoboxes. I assumed that the subpages require the actual template to exist, hence created that template. Since the Infobox election template is very widely used, I didn't want to make any changes on that way that works.
However, since my comment on this discussion, I have seen that some other parties have the subpages without the actual Template itself (e.g. Template:Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam/meta/color, Template:Janata Dal (United)/meta/shortname). If this is permitted, then I agree that we should delete Template:Biju Janata Dal while retaining these 2 subpages.

- Most definitely permitted... IF AND ONLY IF it can be backed up by a reliable secondary source. You must be careful to ensure that the criticism does not make the article appear to take sides. For specific information, check out Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons#Criticism and praise. You can also check out Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography for more information and links.

WikiProject India Tag & Assess 2012 Contest
editHello friends, we are a number of editors from WikiProject India have got together to assess the many thousands of articles under the stewardship of the project, and we'd love to have you, a fellow member, join us. These articles require assessment, that is, the addition of a WikiProject template to the talk page of an article, assessing it for quality and importance and adding a few extra parameters to it.
As of March 11, 2012, 07:00 UTC, WikiProject India has 95,998 articles under its stewardship. Of these 13,980 articles are completely unassessed (both for class and importance) and another 42,415 articles are unassessed for importance only. Accordingly, a Tag & Assess 2012 drive-cum-contest has begun from March 01, 2012 to last till May 31, 2012.
If you are new to assessment, you can learn the minimum about how to evaluate from Part One of the Assessment Guide. Part Two of the Guide will help you learn to employ the full functionality of the talk page template, should you choose to do so.
You can sign up on the Tag & Assess page. There are a number of awards to be given in recognition of your efforts. Come & join us to take part in this exciting new venture. You'll learn more about India in this way.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
