Intro

My name is Jonathan Brier. I have a B.S. in Media and Communication Technology from Michigan State University and a Masters of Science in Information specializing in social computing from the University of Michigan School of Information. I entered the Information Studies PhD program at the University of Maryland, College Park in the University of Maryland College of Information Studies researching citizen science in August 2015. My advisor was Andrea Wiggins, but now I am advised by Brian Butler and Susan Winter.

I edit Wikipedia mainly in computers, Internet, and technology related subjects. I am also interested in improving data completeness for data used in citizen science platforms and research. I'm focusing on Lakes at the moment. My contributions come in bursts when I have the time...like a WikiOgre and often organizing and tackling backlogs like a WikiGnome. Dual class all the way.

If you're interested in Named US geographic features I'm currently importing GNIS info to WikiData. You can help with Mix'n'match Lakes and Mix'n'match Streams.

OSM Wikipedia Geo Linking

Linking and Mapping of Michigan lakes on OpenStreetMap for powering Wikipedia Maps. I've completed an import of named Lakes from GNIS to Wikidata for Michigan. Hotlinks: WikiProject Lakes and Wikidata WikiProject Lakes

Citizen Science

I'm working on a broader data foundation for Citizen Science on Wikidata for broader benefit of citizen science as open science and part of the Swedish research project ARCS, join in the conversation at WikiProject Citizen Science. At some point I'll will work on rekindling the Wikiproject Citizen Science for EN Wikipedia once the Wikidata foundation is moving.

An example is adding infoboxes to Lakes which did not have an infobox and tagging articles with WikiProject Lakes.
