PFLAG Portland Black Chapter.
This is a community of color people for parents,family or friends of transgender, bisexual, and queer people that want to join a safe place where they can be who they are with ought feeling ashamed, this community supports all its people. The PFLAG mission was to build on a foundation of loving families united with LGBTQ people and allies who support one another, and to educate ourselves and our communities to speak up as advocates until all hearts and minds respect, value and affirm LGBTQ people. Jeanne Sobelson Manford who was an American schoolteacher and activist co-founded the support group organization, Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays, for which she was awarded the 2012 Presidential Citizens Medal.
As you continue reading this you'll will learned about Antoinette and her son Khalil. Antoinette helped to create this program on Portland,Oregon for people to have a safe place to go. Khalil help his mom to spreed this awareness and recruited a lot of kids with potential to join and help the community. Antoinette believes that everyone has good in them, she likes to help everyone no matter their situation. She was born in Alabama and later moved with her grandparents to Portland, also worked first in the Portland office for youth violence prevention. She has helped started many fun raiser for people in need, and open her home with her husband to kids who need it a place to stay disregarding of where they came from, she even help people get out of their addictions.
Khalil is her son, he became the coordinator for his organization, he was very excited to be able to work with his mom. On August 24, 2013, BRO and PFLAG joined a march and rally in downtown Portland commemorating Martin Luther King’s 1963 in which Khalil gave an speech. Khalil also came out to his parent that he was gay and they supported his decision and didn't judge them.
