The page name
editI'm, new, so I don't know if that is possible, but I think that would be better to change the page name to "University of Campinas" instead of State University of Campinas, as the first one is the one used by the university itself. (http://www.unicamp.br/unicamp/?language=en)
- Yes, but "State University of Campinas" is in accordance with WP:COMMONNAME, as well as being the actual translation of the Portuguese name. Michipedian (talk) 01:14, 25 August 2014 (UTC)

Capitalization vs. all caps
editI changed the capitalization from UNICAMP to Unicamp, according official recomendations of the university (I studied there) and according the site, which uses "Unicamp". Marcelo R. 03:57, 7 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- I noticed there are lots of articles (like Vestibular) which reference Unicamp as UNICAMP. Is there an easy way to change those links to Unicamp? I think it's okay to have the redirection page UNICAMP, but I think we should change the all references inside Wikipedia to Unicamp... --André Lima (talk) 02:06, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
Removal of People List
editI'm in favor or removing the list of notable people. The list is very large and we cannot maintain it without being discriminatory. If anyone has strong points for keeping it, or agree with the removal, post here your opinion. Fbergo 15:48, 24 July 2005 (UTC)
- I agree. There's lot of important people in their own area that are not listed and other, like Serra, that doesn't actually work there. José San Martin 23:38, July 24, 2005 (UTC)
- I also agree. And some important people listed don't follow NPOV. --Anand 14:02, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Unicamp logo.jpg
editImage:Unicamp logo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

- Rationale added and thanks again for wasting my time. Logos obviously qualify for fair use and it's annoying to have these bots tagging them for deletion. Fbergo (talk) 01:15, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
New Images of institutes on Commons
editI've added images of several institutes of Unicamp to the Commons, they are not so good, but could be useful in some of the pages of these institutes, or even here. Leonardo (talk) 02:04, 24 October 2009 (UTC)

Universidade Estadual de Campinas → University of Campinas – The name should be in English, not Portuguese. See: Wikipedia:Naming conventions (use English). Wikipedian77 (talk) 07:19, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
- Support - but only because the printed sources support this: "the Universidade Estadual de Campinas" = 1,530 hits, "the State University of Campinas" = 4,410, "the University of Campinas" =15,300 hits, so okay. But that doesn't always follow e.g. "the Coimbra Academic Association" gets 5x, "the Associação Académica" Coimbra gets 8x. so names can be in Portuguese even when an English translation has had some use. In ictu oculi (talk) 08:28, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
- Do those hits include hits in Brazil? May this skew the numbers, as this is English Wikipedia? —Wikipedian77 (talk) 14:23, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
- Wikipedia77 yes it includes hits on English language books published in Brazil. I do not know of a way to exclude English language books published in Brazil from English language search on Google Books. In ictu oculi (talk) 17:15, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
- OK, I understand the distinction. "Académie française" is preferable to "French Academy" as it is a far more common name. How do I check the number of hits? —Wikipedian77 (talk) 17:49, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
- No problem. Should be able to just paste "the Universidade Estadual de Campinas" direct into Google Books. As long as there are no accents a word string with "the.... " or ".......was" is usually a reliable was of picking up in-sentence references and excluding extraneous clutter such as section headings and back page indexing. With accents misreadings due to low quality OCR on some GoogleBooks inputting will occur. In ictu oculi (talk) 17:58, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: article moved per WP:SILENCE. Armbrust The Homunculus 13:16, 26 June 2014 (UTC)
University of Campinas → State University of Campinas – "The State University of Campinas" has more hits in Google Books search results than "the University of Campinas" (36,600 vs. 27,200, respectively). Previous search results may have been skewed because "University of Campinas" appears in the phrase "State University of Campinas" and would thus be a combination of results for both. Per WP:COMMONNAME, this should be moved. Relisted Calidum Talk To Me 01:31, 19 June 2014 (UTC) Michipedian (talk) 13:03, 11 June 2014 (UTC)

Hi! I will add my comments over the next few days. Sainsf <^>Feel at home 05:38, 28 April 2016 (UTC)
- Lead
- one of the best universities in Latin America This might challenge the NPOV unless the details in the 4th para (about rankings and all) follow closely after. I would recommend a merger.
- "Portuguese" need not be in bold.
- What does "48%" indicate? How new is the figure?
- Convert template for 12 km.
- There are several duplicate links in the article. You can fix them yourself by using this tool.
- Foundation
- took place in May 20 "on" not "in"
- Convert 110 ha and 12 km
- Growth and Crisis
- Why caps for Crisis in the title?
- Source for para 1?
- 1990 onwards
- This is further aggravated by the harsh economic depression that Brazil faces in 2015 and 2016 The tense appears somewhat improper to me, how about "has been furher aggravated" and "has been facing"?
- Campus
- 12 km from the center of Campinas Repetition of fact
- center in a radial fashion "radial" is a dablink
- Valley, library, restaurant, farmland, logo, surgery, birth seem too common to be wikilinked
- Source for the last para of Design?
- Convert 350 ha
- Convert 50 km (in Limeria, and Piracicaba)
- amongst the best state high school in the country "schools" (Cotuca and Cotil)
- You don't provide the full names of COTUCA and COTIL here but later on. It should be stated here and perhaps the section should be renamed COTUCA and COTIL.
- Organization and administration
- In general terms, schools are usually focused...span several different institutes and schools. Source?
- Zeferino Vaz, who drove the installation and establishment of the university We know that already.
- which conduct research and outreach on topics ranging from dance (such as LUME) to computing and education (such as NIED). Place ref. 47 at the end of this part if it supports this as well.
- Academics
- Source for first para?
- being its own main area Meaning?
- Student life
- Source for Although most are male or female only, mixed-gender houses are also common?
- a price that hasn't been updated "has not"
- Many common terms are linked.
- Convert templates needed in the second subsection
- Source for The university has a sports center...which houses also a convention center?
- Varginha incident
- where the government would run secret projects in an underground area Could this be clearer?
This should be it. Putting this nomination on hold for 7 days. Sainsf (talk · contribs) 03:32, 15 May 2016 (UTC)

- @Sainsf:, just finished making the changes. Removed or reworded the unsourced sections, and added a few extra sources. LMK what you think. Thanks! UCaetano (talk) 11:24, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
- @UCaetano: My apologies for responding to this after a week. Most issues have been resolved, except a few that I have now marked in bold. Sainsf (talk · contribs) 07:07, 23 May 2016 (UTC)
- @Sainsf:, looks like I got all of it now. Thanks! UCaetano (talk) 14:22, 30 May 2016 (UTC)
- @UCaetano: You got most, just a step more. Please remove the links to too common terms in "Campus" (before the section "Synchrotron lab"). Sainsf (talk · contribs) 14:26, 30 May 2016 (UTC)
- @Sainsf: Good enough now? I don't mind removing more, but left some that detail different levels of care, food engineering, chemical engineering and a few others which don't seem too common IMHO. Also made a few smaller edits (units, etc.). Thanks a lot for the help! UCaetano (talk) 15:11, 30 May 2016 (UTC)
