Safety issues
editCBS TV news did a series a few years ago claiming the 700 had issues with the safety & a tendency to fire even on safe. Can somebody confirm & include? Cheap Gunsel 10:56, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
I have found two reports here. http://hunting.about.com/od/guns/a/aacbsnewsrem700.htm , http://hunting.about.com/od/guns/a/aacbsnewsrem700_2.htm it sounds like an attept to make news. Paulwharton 18:00, 24 March 2007 (UTC).
CNBC has an hour special scheduled for 2010-10-20. http://www.cnbc.com/id/39418714 They have a special URL set up for this show that does not seem to resolve for me.76.105.160.69 (talk) 14:06, 15 October 2010 (UTC)
- CNBC's mistake, the domain they list - Remington.cnbc.com - does not exist (yet).

- The "Remington moment" of safety problems first requires that the user make the following mistakes:
- 1. First, the user fails to fully engage the safety all the way.
- 2. Second, the user upon being unable to open the bolt depresses the trigger but it doesn't fire.
- 3. Third, the user then moves the safety which may cause accidental firing.
- 4. Fourth, in cases where injury results, the user failed to keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction.
- The videos played by the CNBC documentary fails to show the people doing the documented "trick". The army video has been edited to make it look like the user does nothing for it to fire.

Merge tag
editToday I suggested that Remington 700 P be merged into this article per WP:GUNS#"Target" versions. I will explain briefly: the 700 P version essentially constitutes a slightly improved version of the 700, and is essentially another version of the same gun. Thus, under the policy cited, Remington 700 P should be merged into this article.--LWF 20:49, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

Done, hope you like it. If you have any more information or don't like the language, please edit. It would also be nice to have some more info for the military paragraph and some more design features in general. Boris Barowski 17:59, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
Catridges, in infobox
editWhy does it only list .223, .308 and .30-06? Rem 700s have been made (factory) in everything from 17 Rem to 375 RUM and probably further, with dozens of cartridges in between.--Russell E 23:12, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
I am making a table with the calibers available User:Boris_Barowski/700 to solve this problem. Please check it out. It isn't finished yet, I'm still working on it. --Boris Barowski 10:13, 25 August 2007 (UTC)
Remington 700 SPS
editReading your information about the Remington 700 SPS Rifle I noticed that the barrel length of 26 inches was left out of the available barrel lengths for the rifle. The Remington 700 SPS Varmint is available in a 26 inch barrel and is chambered in various calibers. To verify this info one can logon to the Remington website and go to the SPS page and view the specifications. I have recently ordered one of these rifles with the 26 inch barrel and 308 caliber. Your chart only shows the rifle with a 24 inch barrel when chambered in 308 caliber. Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.185.37.188 (talk) 01:21, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
Cartridges
editHi,
I believe there is a cartridge type missing. I own a 700 CDL SF as a .308 and it is 24" but it is not in the chart, is mine a custom model or is this information missing? Joelye95 (talk) 21:01, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
- It's possible some cartridges are missing, some types of remington 700 are missing too, and some in the chart aren't on the remington site anymore. However, a 700CDL SF in .308 win isn't on the site anymore either. Check the remington site for more info. Please feel free to update the table with the info you find on the site. The remington line-up changes from time to time and I can't always update instantly. Regards, Boris Barowski (talk) 21:40, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
- I'm not certain we even need this list - it's not really encyclopedic. Perhaps others can chime in with what they think? AliveFreeHappy (talk) 21:48, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
- The currently offered SPS Varmint models are not listed. They are available in .17 Rem Fireball, .223 Remington, .22-250 Remington, .243 Winchester, and .308 Winchester. All models use a 26" heavy barrel. If the cartridge section is to stay (and I think it should as part of a detailed reference), then certainly current offerings should be included. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.219.13.169 (talk) 16:44, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
Military version
editThere has been some recent editing regarding the long-action military version of the 700. This article states that it was to accommodate the .30-06, while the M24 Sniper Weapon System article claims in the lead that it was for the .300 win mag. Neither statement is sourced. Someone should find a source and fix both of these, or we should remove the statement. AliveFreeHappy (talk) 18:39, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
Never mind - I found the ref and made the fixes. AliveFreeHappy (talk) 18:56, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
Military version bias problem
editAbout half this section read like an ad for Remington. I removed it, but there may be some useful information that could be gleaned out of it still. 204.198.77.209 (talk) 18:02, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
- The removal has been reverted, with this edit. I agree that the section should not have been removed, but I also agree that it reads like an ad for Remington. In my opinion the section should be rewritten in a more neutral tone. — Mudwater (Talk) 00:59, 24 November 2010 (UTC)
Page Cleanup
editI have been doing a lot of cleaning up of the Remington Arms pages and am preparing to tackle this one. I wanted to get some input from people. This rifle is one of those guns that has literally dozens if not hundreds of different configurations. It is impractical (if not impossible) to list them all. Personally, I really don't like the table displaying the different calibers versus barrel lengths. I think if you need that kind of detail go to the Remington website or look up the specific configuration, but that is just my two cents. Does anyone have any strong feelings about the way this page should be set up? I welcome input and help. :-) Happy new year everyone. --Zackmann08 (talk) 03:58, 2 January 2013 (UTC)

Orphaned references in Remington Model 700
editI check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Remington Model 700's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

- From Pattern 1914 Enfield: Out, Roger (July 2012). "Le fusil britannique P.14". Gazette des Armes (in French). No. 444. pp. 30–36.
I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT⚡ 17:20, 23 June 2020 (UTC)
