Gaelic translation
editI have taken the liberty of removing the gaelic translation of Newmachar because Gaelic was never widely spoken in the North-East of Scotland and as such the village (which was known as Summerhill until about the start of the 20th century in any case) would never have had a Gaelic name. killerwraith 1111 11_01_07 (UTC)
It seems that another user (possibly the same, as they are only identified by an IP Address) has gone about re-adding a Gaelic translation of Newmachar. As the above states, this is rather nonsensical and could you please add to the talk page the reasoning behind why you believe it appropriate.
I have gone about reverting to the previous version.

Gaelic was widely spoken in the north east of Scotland, it is a commonly held misconception that it isn't. The first example of Scottish Gaelic written literature in history was discovered in Old Deer just up the road. Yes, Aberdeenshire widely speaks Doric now but that's no reason to airbrush Gaelic out of the north east's history. And St Machar himself almost certainly spoke Old Gaelic. Cleanup
editThe cleanup which took place for this article seems to have seriously decreased the size of the article since I last saw it. Was it necessary? --NeoNerd 14:54, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
