Hat Squad
edit(The original poster left no headline. I made up one. --Netizen 10:31, 21 January 2006 (UTC))
Who is the real life "Hat Squad"? Is there a wikipedia entry for them? If not maybe there should be. If there is this article should definitely have a link to it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.71.227.105 (talk • contribs) 2005-11-12 10:53:24.(see diff)
- the hat squad was a group of police men in LA during the 1950's who kind of worked above the law to keep the Mob out of LA —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.8.57.156 (talk • contribs) 2005-11-27 03:17:56.(see diff)
- The "Hat Squad" referred to LAPD's Robbery Division. The officers of LAPD's Robbery/Homicide Division (the two units were merged in 1969) are still called the "Hats". Although "Mulholland Falls" calls the squad of cops charged with suppressing organized crime the "Hat Squad", but the detail responsible for combating organized crime was the "Organized Crime Intelligence Division" (OCID), run by Captain Jim Hamilton from the late '40s through the early '60s, when it was taken over by future LAPD Chief Darryl Gates. The Mike Rothmiller/Ivan G. Goldman book entitled "L.A. Secret Police" purports to tell the inside story of the Division's abuses. May I could help you...
- Based on the preceding, it seems to me that the article is making a judgement that is not neutral about the "Hat Squad". Perhaps it should be reworded to have NPOV and point to a new page on the LAPD "Hat Squad"? Tedclaymore 16:50, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
- I agree with the NPOV comments made by Tedclaymore. I will try to do some reseach to see if I can find some references supporting what's been written. Otherwise I will do some minor edits to correct for POV. The part that murder is beyond a police officer is difficult to believe. In fact, about 15 years ago the same LAPD had a huge problem with an anti-gang unit named CRASH that were very much corrupt. It hit the news big time, some of you all may recall. Quotes
editAt one time I used to edit a lot of quotes into film articles. But I've come to relize that the wiki consensus is to use them sparingly, if at all. Hence, I eliminated a few quotes. I only left in quotes that describe the ethos of the "Hat Squad." Well that's my thinking for deleting a few quotes. Luigibob 14:26, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
