Equipment Citations
editI added a bunch of references. One includes a store, so I'm not sure how to cite that or if it's a valid source. If not, I have other books that I can research a bit more for a reference.
Also, there's a citation needed tag for the "popular manufacturers". I'm not sure that's necessary or proper protocol. The proof is whenever you search for NJS products and these brands routinely come up. Maybe we leave it up for a bit longer and then rework or delete? --75.34.184.148 (talk) 01:47, 31 October 2009 (UTC)
Just a comment from a reader...
editI read this entire article and I'm still left wondering "why". Why do this as opposed to a normal race? Call me dumb if you like. Just a comment from a confused reader. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 162.136.192.1 (talk) 14:21, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
It's absolute pointless rubbish. Why don't they have a race, start to finish? The Olympics have gone to pot. All that horse-ballet-dancing, yachting and golf has no place in Olympics. They'll be having darts next. Then Space Invaders and Pokemon Go. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.2.129.132 (talk) 18:51, 17 August 2016 (UTC)
Keirin in Japan - Section Split Proposal
editIn the past I have contributed to the section of this article concerning Japanese Keirin racing. Considering that the Japanese sport takes up most of this article, perhaps it would be beneficial to give this its own space. JRHorse (talk) 15:09, 19 January 2016 (UTC)
I agree. Perhaps create Keirin (track cycling event) for the international format? How does one generally go about this (splitting process) ? (Oikomi (talk) 04:28, 25 January 2016 (UTC))
- Probably Keirin (Japanese Sport) or Keirin (Japan) to disambiguate the Japanese sport from the international sport. The section about Japanese Auto Race for example is called Auto Race (Japanese sport). I can go ahead and work on the split in the next few days then :) JRHorse (talk) 15:50, 22 February 2016 (UTC)
- Great, I'll help out wherever I can. About the article naming though, and I understand I might be a bit personally invested here, but I feel Keirin should be about the Japanese sport since it is the original format for the sport (and also what the current article is mainly about), and Keirin (International) (or something to that effect) be the disambiguating article because it is the "derivative". Differences between Olympic and domestic Keirin
editMy understanding is that there are several differences between Olympic and domestic Keirin, but I'm not an expert. For example is contact between riders permitted in domestic Kierin? (The Equipment section notes bike spec. differences). If so then it would be good to note these in the article. It might also be good to have more on race tactics.
Gilgamesh4 (talk) 11:43, 15 April 2020 (UTC)
I think the very first sentence of the article is incorrect or at least incomplete. It says Keirin is "a form of motor-paced cycle racing", which is only true for the international variant. In the Japanese sport for betting, there is no motor; the pacer rides a regular bike under his own power. Could a more experienced and confident editor rectify this?
" literally "racing cycle""
editThe article says keirin literally means 'racing cycle', when it doesn't. The first character means 'competition'. The second character means 'loop' or 'ring'. It's a bit pointless to have a literal interpretation of the term if the literal interpretation is completely wrong, so I felt like I should say this. 133.106.210.196 (talk) 04:00, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
