Incorrect citing
editThis article states a number of facts that are not correct, so I have removed them. George Kerr was a good friend of Anton Geesink, who became a jūdan in 1997 aged 63. Charlie Palmer became a jūdan in 1996, aged 66. As George Kerr became a jūdan aged 72, he is certainly not the youngest. Another problem arises from the adjudication of the rank of jūdan. There is the sytem used by Kodokan which has only conferred this honour on Japanese and the system used by the IJF. Up to now the IJF have only named three judoka as jūdan.
In total no more than 18 persons have been granted the title of jūdan. For a full list see List of judoka.
There have been three judoka named jūdan by other bodies.
George Kerr is one of the few living jūdan, a rare honour indeed.
