editThis article really needs a lot of work. I've tried to correct some of the worst stylistic problems (like repeatedly referring to a hypothetical pilot as "you"), but there's not much content here. I hope that Wikipedians who know about this subject will add more information, especially about the history of fighter pilots. CKarnstein 02:33, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
Sexism in article
editI am most offended that two of the images in this article contain MALE pilots. I find it highly offensive that someone has snuck these photos into the article in place of more deserving female pilots. Thankfully all the other fighter pilots in the article are female and have not been replaced by photos of male pilots in wanton acts of vandalism. Given that the percentage of female fighter pilots is less than one percent, it is most important to ensure that 100% of all fighter pilot photos remain female. Acts of heroism, combat medals, confirmed air to air victories and other violent acts of toxic masculinity are no excuse for allowing MALE images on wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.223.243.178 (talk) 19:34, 16 April 2024 (UTC)
Fighter Pilots were Not Just in "Air-to-Air" Roles
editThey also did (and still do) a lot of pin-point Air-to-ground fighting, including close-air support, ground assault, and also delivery (these days) of smart bombs. And there is a long and storied history of arial reconnaissance (which is why all fighter aircraft have an "R" series as well as a "plain F"-- for example RF-5 and RF101 (fighter aircraft used for high-speed and often very dangerous reconnaissance missions).
Female fighter pilots
editI know nothing about female fighter pilots, I didn't even know they existed until reading the external link at the bottom of the page. Don't suppose anyone could add a bit about them to the article plz. Oh and whacking in a picture of any old pilot might be a good idea too (maybe WW2 + modern) Ryan4314 (talk) 09:36, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
What is an M1? Why do we start off with the physical fitness/breathless 'elite' rubbish? This piece has an immediate US/Nerd quality that needs to be rectified. 217.42.77.29 (talk) 19:17, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
There is no mention about the type of person who becomes a fighter pilot. There are numerous references to Fight Jocks in popular culture, but does any of it have a basis in reality? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 15.203.169.105 (talk) 14:02, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
This article has clearly improved a bit in the past decade as far as some of these complaints are concerned, but now we have as of 2018-07-16 50% or better of the article space devoted to the advent and a bit of the history of female fighter pilots. In an article about Fighter Pilots in general, the requirements to be one, the history of this military aviation trade, etc., this is a wild distortion of the subject's importance. The article should be 3-4 times as long to improve proportionality on this section. Actually, the article probably should be 3-4 times as long at any rate, so this section could otherwise stay the same length. I'm assuming there is also already Wikipedia coverage of female firsts in aviation and in military service, so this article should fit that element into a wider perspective. - And now it's like 95% female pilots in the photos, what a joke, guys! 62.171.110.146 (talk) 10:32, 16 April 2024 (UTC)

Orphaned references in Fighter pilot
editI check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Fighter pilot's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.
Reference named "ss":
