Talk:Congo (film)

I reverted this page to a previous version because almost all of the text was lifted directly from IMDB's plot summary for the film. I then re-did the legitimate edits people did after that text was added. I am willing to rewrite the article if no one else is interested. Aguerriero 20:27, 10 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

This film still needs some sort of plot section though.--Nehrams2020 19:37, 11 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Point of view

edit

Much of this article reads like it is not written with a neutral point of view and feels more like a review of the movie instead. I've edited the Differences section to remove some of this, but it still needs work.--GeneralDuke 23:15, 3 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

agreed. one part reads, "The Amy suit was so convincing many viewers thought it was a trained gorilla". the people who thought that must have had an iq lower than a gorilla

electronic sign language interpreter

edit

Can someone explain what was the "electronic sign language interpreter" used in the movie? Reference to this device was made under the heading, Innovations and Explanations. --Joel M. 19:57, 16 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well, in the movie, Amy has some ort of device attached to her hand that apparently detects the movement of her hand, and a computer that she wears on her back then converts this into speech. Take my word for it, though, regardless of whatever logistical problems this solved for the movie, it is TOTALLY impossible in real life, for technological as well as linguistic reasons. 24.127.52.15 22:34, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Always be suspicious of someone who starts a sentence 'take my word for it'. I recommend you peruse the following links: http://www.cc.gatech.edu/~thad/030_research.htm http://www2.computer.org/portal/web/csdl/doi/10.1109/34.735811 ...before making such statements. Note that this research was done in *1998*, only 3 years after the movie was released. Scolbath (talk) 17:11, 11 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Differences from the book

edit

The first bullet under "differences from the book" is very confusing. I haven't read the book, so I'm not really sure what's meant here, but if I'm reading it correctly, it should read something like this:

"In the book, the gray apes look similar to ordinary gorillas, but are smaller. In the movie, they are the size of normal gorillas and have a monstrous appearance."

Am I getting this right? If so, I'll change the wording on the page. 24.127.52.15 23:56, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'm having a larger problem with this section, in that quite a lot of it doesn't make sense. It's all due to the wording. Sorry if I've "over-templated" the section, but I was trying to point out the numerous problems. Generally, it's often not clear whether the editor was referring to the book or the film. There are also instances where it is not clear what the difference is that the editor is referencing. In one instance, "Monroe" is referred to as "the aforementioned character", except now the spelling has changed without explanation (is that another difference, or did the editor goof?). Other references are simply not explained: "the transliterated joke", "a gorilla slicing laser". If a joke has changed, you have to tell what the joke is and how the change affects its meaning; a term like "gorilla slicing laser" has no intrinsic meaning (a laser for slicing gorillas??) and requires explanation. Having not read the book or seen the movie, I cannot straighten this mess out. 12.233.146.130 (talk) 20:28, 26 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Portable Air Conditioners in Congo Movie

edit

I was wondering if anyone would like to elborate on what type of portable air conditioner they used in the movie. I've never seen anything like that and was wondering if anything like that even exists? Wickland (talk) 18:10, 18 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Congo unit in a blog

Is the blog using the "Congo" measurement any notable? IS this worth a reference? 91.132.141.80 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 14:52, 22 July 2010 (UTC).Reply

Where was it filmed?

edit

Where was the movie filmed? Portillo (talk) 09:37, 31 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Also: At what epoch does the action take place? Reading the plot brings to mind that it is probably contemporary (1990s), but it should be stated.
Then, there is not one single link to Congo, the river, or the country. No link to Zaire either. Pretty bad. --Jerome Potts (talk) 22:58, 13 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Missing Information

edit

This article is missing information on the film's production and home media release. These are very important pieces of information and must be added to the article in order for it to meet Wikipiedia's standards of a well developed article.--Paleface Jack (talk) 19:50, 12 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Another Video game

edit

There was another tie-in video game for PC called Congo the Movie: Descent into Zinj. It's a Myst-style adventure game and unlike the movie it's good. Aristides86 (talk) 16:06, 24 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
