Queen an Old Bancroftian?
editCall me unnecessarily suspicious, but I sense subtle vandalism - how could the Queen have attended Bancrofts when it was coeducational while she was a girl, and it is a well known fact that the queen was privately tutored?
lol - the Queen didn't attend Bancroft's. Queen Mary College is a University that has been built on the school's old site, at Mile End Road.
He was referring to a point when the Queen was listed under the old Bancroftians heading. He wasn't misunderstanding about the old building becoming a college.
Translation of Floreat Bancroftia Suspect
edit- 'Floreat' is the future imperative, and is translated 'may he/she/it flourish' cf. 'Floreat Regina', the motto of Regina
- 'Nobis' is the Ablative tense, so 'unto us' or 'to us'
- 'Pueri' can be either students, boys or pupils (or, at a pinch, children). Pupils is the best fit in this instance
- I have corrected the translation accordingly

Neutrality dispute resolved?
editWhat is under dispute? chrisboote (talk) 07:30, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
Removed 'neutrality' template, as after two years no one has defined what is potentially a NPOV violation chrisboote (talk) 14:14, 20 September 2012 (UTC)
Notable Alumni
editI removed 13 alumni here since they had no wikiarticles or references to show their notability and that they were associated with the school. Meters (talk) 21:36, 21 January 2015 (UTC)
The introductory section contains more about the Old Bancroftians than it does about the school itself! Consider balancing the information there? "In recent years these have included David Pannick, Alan Davies, Hari Kunzru, Russell Lissack and YolanDa Brown" does not even have a full stop, let alone any significance with regard to the nature of the school itself. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.3.188.187 (talk) 12:36, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
Alumni: Sir Wilfrid Sheldon and Joseph Harold Sheldon
editI added Sir Wilfrid to the list. Source: his entry in the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, which says: "Like his brother, he was educated at Bancroft's School, Essex..."
His brother, Joseph Harold Sheldon CBE, probably merits adding to your alumni list as well. Joseph Harold went to Bancroft's according to source #1 and appears to be a prominent person, especially in light of his CBE and source #2:

I will leave it to others, closer to the school than I, to make the decision on Joseph.

Alumni facebook page.
editI've removed the promotional mention of the school's alumni face book page. Calling it "vary active" is promotional fluff, and general readers dfo not care how many face book members the group has. This is not the school 's or group's publicity page. Meters (talk) 22:49, 18 June 2020 (UTC)
List of alumni
editThe list of Bancroft's Alumni is now quite long. When is a good time to a) simply list the most notable Old Bancroftian's and update Category:People educated at Bancroft's School or b) separate the list of alumni into discipline? Considering this talk page is relatively inactive, I'll give it a week and if no-one replies then I'll decide what to do. Ellwat (talk) 21:32, 8 February 2024 (UTC)
- The list of alumni is not overly long compared to other schools/colleges, so I suggest that names are not deleted as it is better to be comprehensive. Oxonwiki (talk) 22:24, 13 February 2024 (UTC)
- Alright, we'll keep it as is. I was focused on changing it mostly for aesthetics, but you're right, the list isn't too long at the moment. Ellwat (talk) 14:02, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
