Terminology - French - regional disparities

edit

The following statement only applies in Europe and Africa. French-Canadians never use Amérique to refer to the United States. I feel the statement needs to be rectified.

In French, Amérique is also used to refer to the United States, making the term ambiguous. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Infomanicool (talkcontribs) 14:00, 8 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Change the "Economy" section to include the information that the GDP of the Americas in 2023 is $35.7 trillion.https://www.imf.org/external/datamapper/NGDPD@WEO/CHN — Preceding unsigned comment added by 177.223.160.125 (talk) 21:33, 17 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Why 2 articles?

edit

There is also an article New World which seems to be about the same territory as this one. Does WP need both of them? BookeWorme (talk) 20:48, 10 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

While the "new world" article is about the same territory, they both differ in content since they are about 2 different periods of time. I looked at "new world" and it’s about the past of america. It doesn’t have any unnecessary redundancy with this article. It could be compared as how there is an article about the 13 colonies and one about the United States. The "New World" article is about the term "the New World". There is very little overlap.--Jack Upland (talk) 00:00, 12 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

"largely replaced the indigenous population"

edit

The claim that old world emigration "largely replaced the indigenous population" seen in the introduction is true in some countries in the Americas, such as the United States, but not in countries like Mexico and Peru, where the majority of the population is either of chiefly indigenous or of Mestizo (part European and part Indigenous) descent. 81.96.124.171 (talk) 17:37, 18 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

This is a fair point. I tried to adjust this to be less of a blanket statement. If you have a suggestion for an alternative, please feel free to request. CAVincent (talk) 04:27, 19 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
I thinks that new wording is good. HiLo48 (talk) 04:48, 19 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

The population of the city of São Paulo is outdated. According to the latest census, the metro area has 23,443,587 people, while the city has 12,400,232 people. Antoniop.camargo (talk) 07:33, 3 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Change "The Americas, sometimes collectively called America," to "The Americas, collectively called America," because it is not "sometimes", it is the definition that appears in the citation JoPazBM (talk) 01:23, 4 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Not done for now: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{Edit semi-protected}} template. It is sometimes in English, as demonstrated by other sources cited in the article BilCat (talk) 02:01, 4 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
