Incorrect Hebrew?

edit

The transliteration BeAspaklariya seemed incorrect to me; maybe a different language? I would think it would be Ba-Or or something.74.106.77.160 (talk) 02:35, 5 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Never mind, same person here and I discovered that it more literally means "In the mirror" not "in the light". I have changed it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.236.116.64 (talk) 21:53, 10 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

This article was helpful to me.

edit

I didn't see a problem with the sentence mentioned because it parsed quite logically (in my opinion).

I would like the article to be a little longer, if possible, to include some quotes that are most notably attributed to the rabbi, and also something as to the public reaction to his death, which in 1972, at the end of the war, after so many assassinations and attempted assassination of public figures, whether he was noted then to be a figure of change, because, at that time, I do not recall hearing much about him. Sorry that I was so out of it, then. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sailheaven (talkcontribs) 22:37, 28 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

The quote "God is either of no importance, or of supreme importance." doesn't seem to match the original. I think quotes should be exact, especially as this article is considered of high importance. A quick Google suggested that this is the correct quote:
"God is of no importance unless He is of supreme importance"
Can someone who knows about the topic verify this and the other quotes? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.242.53.50 (talk) 02:39, 1 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

key biographical information

edit

I'm not entirely sure, but I believe he missed the holocaust personally because of his arrival date in the US. It does not state that definitively here and the accounts of his loved ones who died are misleading. If someone could confirm and or add whether or not he was certainly in or not in the holocaust would be helpful. That is a crucial part when talking about any Jewish philosopher's backgroundPiercedevol (talk) 12:36, 14 December 2012 (UTC)PierceReply

Heschel's studies in Vilna

edit

Heschel's years in Vilna (1925–1927) should be mentioned. Despite his mastery of Torah and Talmud, Heschel was not qualified for admission to a German or Polish university without first completing studies at a government-certified Gymnasium. His choice of the Mathematics-Natural Science Gymnasium, also known as the Real-Gymnasium of Vilna, is emblematic of his life-long dedication to making traditional spirituality and piety relevant in the modern, secular world.
