Amir Ziv-Av (Hebrew: אמיר זיו-אב; Born July 24th, 1949) is an Israeli mechanical and systems engineer and entrepreneur, who designed technological solutions in the fields of plastic molding. Furthermore, Ziv-Av served as the Chief Scientist of the Israeli Ministry of Transport, National Infrastructures and Road Safety.[1][2]
Biography
editZiv-Av was born in Rehovot, Israel. Ziv-Av studied mechanical engineering at Tel Aviv University in the early 70s. From 1973 to 1976, parallel to his university education, ZivAv served as a member of the safety committee of the Israeli minister of transportation, Gad Yaacobi. [1] That time, Ziv-Av also had a column of road tests of new vehicles in Maariv.[3] In 1984, Ziv-Av was appointed as an Optomechanical Development Executive of Oprotech (which later became Orbotech). [4] In 1987, he was appointed as an R&D manager and a board member of Keter Plastic. [5][3]
In 1990, Ziv-Av started a firm for technological consulting and development named Ziv-Av Technologies.[6][3] Following the foundation of his firm, Ziv-Av served as a consultant in the plastics industry for industrialist Stef Wertheimer. [7][8]
From 1997 to 2002, Ziv-Av Technologies registered several patents for new concepts of injection molding machines for the plastic industry.[9][10][11][12][13][14]
In 1998, he was appointed as the chairman of the board of directors of "Tasfrir Mehandesim", an Israeli public company that provided engineering services.[15][16] In 1999, Ziv-Av led the project of transportation in what was known as the "Superheater affair." [17][18]
From 2005 to 2010, Ziv-Av served as a board member for the R&D company of Bar-Ilan University.[1][2] Between 2007 and 2016, Ziv-Av served as a board member of a the governmental-public industrial company Ashot Ashkelon. [19] Ziv-Av is a member of the Executive Committee of the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, and a lecturer of the course "technological optimization" for advanced degrees at the Technion.[20][21]
Amir Ziv-Av received a PhD in Technological optimization from Tel Aviv University in 2006.[22] In 2011 he was appointed as the Chief Scientist of the Israeli Ministry of Transport, National Infrastructures and Road Safety. He was also the chairman of the Inter-ministerial Statutory Committee for Traffic Devices, Safety and Experiments and Chairman of the Steering Committee for Traffic Management and Control. [1][23]
