In Greek mythology, a Daphnaie (Δαφναίη; plural: Δαφναίαι[1]) is a nymph of the laurel tree.[citation needed]
They are named after Daphne ('Laurel'), one of the naiads who was plagued with unwanted sexual advances until she cried to Peneus (the river god) for help. The river god took pity on her and turned Daphne into a laurel tree.
