Adding a new AfD discussion

Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:

Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Football|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.

Removing a closed AfD discussion

Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.

Other types of discussions

You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Football (soccer). For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.

Comment I can't remember what led to my creating a stub of this (pre-League) player. I no longer have a copy of the referenced book. I expect Fishwick's notability, if any, would be clearer when seeing why he was deemed notable enough to have his own section in the book. Question How much research did you do for WP:BEFORE guys? Because I am not sure, but he may have been a Corporal in the first world war and died there at the age of 25. [1], Serving in the East Lancashire Regiment. Baring in mind you are failing him on SportsCrit, fair enough, however he served in the first world war. So I'd assume you would change over to WP:BASIC for a better look. Giving this a chance you really need to review the military career also. Govvy (talk) 10:41, 10 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see any evidence they are the same person. There is a death notice for Cpl Fishwick in the Burnley News at the British Newspaper Archive, but it says he was a weaver prior to enlistment - no mention of him of being a footballer. Searching his name with Tranmere only brings up trivial mentions in match reports. J Mo 101 (talk) 21:39, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Comment That's an excellent find by Govvy. While Mysecretgarden said that the name might be too common, I think Govvy is onto something because this 1891 birth would have been 25 in 1916 or 1917. Being in a Lancashire regiment also makes it likely we're talking about the same person. I think we should hold out for someone to have a gander at the book source, in case it was about Tranmere players who fought in the war. József Fellai

I am aware of his 89 minutes of football in the top tier of Hungary but I don't believe that that makes Fellai notable by default. Under current guidelines he needs to meet WP:GNG or WP:SPORTBASIC. The only decent source that I can find is Pécsi Újság but this uses Pécsi MFC as its source so is not independent of the subject. Delete - I couldn't find any substantial coverage under Thamir Muhsin, a few other similar names, or what I _think_ may be his Arabic name. Searching is tough because of this Thamir Muhsen, also a sports scientist at Baghdad U. I can't easily find anything, but I think it's absolutely crazy that someone who managed a national team, albeit briefly (RSSSF says his first stint was taking a younger version of the national team to a cup), and someone who coached one of the top clubs in the country to the top flight for the first time, would not be notable. The problem is Arabic is a difficult language for me to find pre-internet sources from. Nemzeti Archívum doesn't seem to have anything about him between 2005 and 2007. Hungaricana has some hits in reliable newspapers. Fradi is not independent (his club's own newspaper) and is only an image caption. Új Néplap is only an image caption and this only mentions him in passing. Heves Megyei Hírlap is also only a passing mention. Perhaps this could be moved to draft space until one source complying with WP:SPORTBASIC #5 is found? I'm finding it very hard to search that Hungarian website - there's certainly nothing on him in my generic web searches, but that website is saying "Csepregi Richárd" brings up no hits whatsoever, which is clearly false. I have read the articles and they don't show any evidence of accomplishments as much as what he might be capable of doing in the MLS. I don't believe because he had potential that it meets significance. His biggest achievement was probably being a squad member in Remo's 2007 Campeonato Paraense-winning side (although I found this match preview which strongly suggests he was only a fringe player during the competition). He played one season in the 2009 Campeonato Paulista A1 with Noroeste, but only appeared in 11 matches as the club finished dead last, and he briefly appeared in the 2011 Campeonato Brasileiro Serie D as Operário failed to advance beyond the initial group phase. Delete - It appears that this list is not notable, particularly as the club did not even compete for two full seasons. I found an article in a local (Alton, Illinois) newspaper from May 2010 that covers the club's demise, and it only mentions a few of the players that were under contract (only the national team players). At most, I could see a list covering the club's most notable players perhaps meeting our notability standards, but that list would be so small I don't see how it would be useful. Merge into Saint Louis Athletica and its season articles. There's really no reason for this information to be deleted apart from the fact it's an all time roster for a team that played 1⅓ seasons - this was a top flight football team, albeit a very financially insecure one - and NLIST does not require a list to be discussed in secondary sources, it's just one of the reasons why a list could be notable. The rosters for each season are already on the respective season articles and the final roster is already on the team article. Keep: I don't really see how WP:GNG is not satisfied when there are multiple articles with significantly more than WP:ROUTINE mentions in Nov. 2014, Dec. 2014, Jan. 2015 and in Apr. 2022. Unless these sources fail WP:RS, the fact that there is interest in knowing more about this player who had a very unremarkable career seven/eight years on from the notable event of when he was signed out of high school is IMO a notable indication of potential notability. Most players that retire before they turn 27 with (apparently) 0 games in the top two divisions don't get anything more than a one-liner as part of a broader list of retirees or a courtesy post on the club's website, so that he had a lengthy article & interview is what stands out most to me. Probably someone who speaks Japanese could locate better sources, as I imagine there is a reason why this player's retirement received this level of attention. - Comment I think it's important to note that it's not a direct recreation. There was a request for speedy deletion which was denied by Asilvering saying decline WP:G4, text greatly expanded from deleted version, no longer just a list, would need new discussion. Therefore the recreation isn't due to the page title being 'freed', but rather the creator would seem to think the expansion is enough for it to be notable enough to stand currently (also see what Claudio Fernag wrote on the talk page: This page should not be speedily deleted because the article is no substantially identical to the deleted version. The article is no longer just a list of broadcasters like when it was deleted, a context has been added that gives it notability, and verifiable and reliable sources were also included. The same happened with the article List of La Liga broadcasters, which at first was just a table with a list of broadcasters. Keep: but rename to "Serie A in media", "Serie A broadcasting", "Serie A on television" or similar, not opposed to Draftify until quality concerns are met. Strongly opposed to salting. The article is not in a great state and is clearly based on / inspired by the it:wiki article which is IMO in need of some editing to trim it down. Nonetheless, the notability is clearly there, and this should be the "expansion/detailed article" corresponding to the TV rights section of the Serie A article. There is repeated coverage of TV rights negotiations, impacts on viewers and commentary on current status of TV rights in the main Italian newspapers of record (e.g., 1, 2, 3, 4, 5...). There is more specialized work to analyze the landscape in niche publications / sources (which should naturally be reviewed to ensure they pass RS), such as 6, 7 (also independently published as a book, which may be better for referencing), 8, 9, 10 (appears to be a very good source, published by Taylor & Francis), 11... Research papers on this topic also exist, however I don't know if they meet our quality requirements: 12 and 13 published when Serie A TV rights were being renewed in 2005, 14, 15, 16...
