Wikipedia:April Fools/April Fools' Day 2019

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by InvalidOS (talk | contribs) at 11:24, 10 September 2023 (Userpages: pronouns). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Like any April Fools' Day on Wikipedia, there was plenty of chaos. April Fools' Day 2019, however, was quite possibly the most chaotic out of all of them. Some of the jokes[clarification needed] that took place this year were bordering on being vandalism.[citation needed] Some people[who?][weasel words] have said that the chaos of April Fools' Day 2019 on Wikipedia was contagious.[citation needed][dubiousdiscuss][original research?]

  • It is confirmed as fake news.[4]
  • And then subsequently found to be not fake.[5] We do not know what is going on here, or why this continued up until 2 days before Halloween.

Requests for Undeletion

Speedy deletion requests

  • Earth was tagged for speedy deletion, however a reason wasn't left. According to IRC, the user thought it didn't represent a galactic view on the subject.

Other nominations

Requests for adminship

Several joke RfAs and RfBs had Jimbo's head popping out of the side of the screen.

Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/RexxS was also created on April 1, but it turned out to be a serious RfA (even though the nominator was Bishzilla).

  • Result was Fully Protected for a period of 9 billion years.
  • Office was contacted by the Council of Snowflakes about the ethnically charged term (Jerryfoolery) - but which long-term sockmaster to send to the laundry room?
  • Since the article appeared to one admin to still be “foolly” unprotected, the Wikipedaimyō were sent out to round up any remaining sandalism.

"The section title of the article that people kept edit warring over" foolery

  • A section entitled "Back to the Future" was present on the first version of the page, saying "You got a bit too far into the future, how about you turn back?". This was on March 31st.
  • It was then revived by another user.
  • But was then edited by yet another, to reflect on the fact that this section was from the past of the page you are reading now, which by the way, WHY THIS PAGE! It's barely readable!
  • Then it spiraled out of control.
  • Eventually the original user (That created this page!) gave up on trying to edit because it was being ruined and now he feels unfortunate to be left out.
  • Great Scott!
  • Somebody mirrored the page.
  • Another person reverted this.
  • Before "General Tomfoolery" was even on this page, it was changed to "General Jerryfoolery".
  • The edit summary also stated that "General Tomfoolery" was "no longer invisible."
  • This was the start of a long, and quite petty and/or very entertaining (depending on who you ask), edit war which can be found here.
  • Yes, an entire page is dedicated to this one edit war.
  • It was reverted by the same person.
  • They updated their retcon, by including the page of jokes on Wikipedia.
  • And it was reverted.
  • And that was reverted.
  • And that was reverted.
  • And that was reverted.
  • And that was reverted.[7]
  • They circumvented the barrier and actually did it.
  • It was then flipped and later reverted.
  • Then the report was removed as if it was a serious misplaced report.
  • This was reverted.
  • Someone added a link to the music video of "Loadsamoney" disguised as a link to Avengers: Endgame spoilers.
  • The end-all-be-all edit war began, where people who were reverting certain edits were mocked for doing so, and this page officially became a no-revert zone.
  • Page is in a template loop.
  • Whatever the peck this is...
  • For a while, there was a section devoted to bacon.
    • As well as one dedicated entirely to Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.
  • Someone made up their own version of Spider-Man
  • There was a section dedicated to A&P, which still hasn't built that proud feeling yet!
  • A new way to fund-raise was proposed:

Quick! We need to bring in enough money to outweigh this girl! Break out the gold bars!

The new way to fundraise was dropped at the last minute.

  • Somebody added part of the well known "This is fine" comic to describe what was happening.
  • This page hit the wall at one point.
  • Somebody tried to retire this page..
  • Somebody else fought them by saying,"We will never back down!".
  • Then the retirement message had the font changed to Wingdings.
  • Then it got stretched out really far.
  • And then was rotated.
  • Someone put a random picture of beans on the top of this page.
  • Another made an edited version of the Fortnite Battle Royale logo to make it say "Wikipedia Battle Royale".
  • This logo was later deleted due to copyright infringement.
  • The start of this page got extended way too much.
  • Within the new emptiness, a warning was put about how there was live edit fire.
  • Satan then welcomed us into the article and called it hell.
  • Santa then remembered to sign as well.
  • Satan was exorcised from the article.
  • This got reverted for a bit.
  • A proper excision was made, leaving the message about live edit fire there though.
  • Users commented on how true that warning was.
  • The second line got changed to "Let's a go," likely referencing Mario.
  • Someone made this entire section, title and body, into Wingdings.
  • It was then manually reverted.
  • Somebody tried to make this entire article be put under a single section called, "WELCOME TO THE GREAT EDIT WAR!"
  • A new section was then also added for when the main article ended, and all you were left with was jokes.
  • Someone changed the section title to say, "Welcome to Jurassic Park".
  • A kazoo theme was then requested to play.
  • The sections were removed at some point.
  • Somebody put a big cat on the page. Now all it does is MEOW.
  • It was then turned into a dog which loves to WOOF.
  • Then they both died.
  • Such as one person creating a slanted text shrine.
  • A user who made their text upside down, and if you were able to read it, you would get gnomed.

Userpages

  • They make a request for "Supreme Evil Zombie Cabal Leadership."
  • They are also embarrassed by his misspelling of the word "rogue," and believes they deserve to be trout-slapped.

Vandalism

As in, actual vandalism in mainspace. Don't try this at home, please.

  • ...which was quickly reverted to its original form, sadly...
  • Tilt's 'Tilt may refer to:' had been tilted, and it was later reverted.
  • The entire Tilt page had been actually tilted and, again, it was reverted.
