Commons:Categories and please avoid "over-categorization"
[edit]Hi, some categories have been tagged as {categorize}, therefore p.e. that edit has been fixed. Please also check Commons:categories and avoid so-called "over-categorization". Best regards, Roland zh (talk) 19:37, 2 May 2014 (UTC)

Category:Know_how_videos has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! |

Your VFC installation method is deprecated
[edit]Hello Pavan santhosh.s, we are aware that using the old installation method of VFC (via common.js, which you are using) may not work reliably anymore and can break other scripts as well. A detailed explanation can be found here. Important: To prevent problems please remove the old VFC installation code from your common.js and instead enable the VFC gadget in your preferences. Thanks for uploading File:Anandam Manishainavadu.pdf. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). - Dear Bodhisattwa! I am the editor, publisher & copyright owner of the book. Even that is mentioned in book's details. I uploaded it using my Wikipedia Account which also means relicensing into CC-BY-SA 4.0. Is it not enough? Please let me know if I have to send out a mail to OTRS team even in this case. I'll do it too. --Pavan santhosh.s (talk) 08:34, 11 December 2017 (UTC)
- If it has been already printed in the book, that you, as a copyright owner, have already released the copyright under the said license, then I can remove the OTRS pending template, which is not needed anymore. You just provide the page number of the book where the permission has been given and that would be enough. But, if it is not printed in the book, then you need to mail the OTRS team to release the book under CC-BY-SA. Thanks for understanding. Best wishes, -- Bodhisattwa (talk) 12:42, 11 December 2017 (UTC)

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2017 is open!
[edit]You are receiving this message because you voted in R1 of the 2017 Picture of the Year contest, but not yet in R2.
Dear Pavan santhosh.s,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2017 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the twelfth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2017) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1475 candidate images. There are 58 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top 2 from each sub-category.
In the final round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2017.
Round 2 will end on 22 July 2018, 23:59 UTC.
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee 11:33, 17 July 2018 (UTC)

Lingua Libre Telugu Proverbs Recordings
[edit]Hi Pavan santhosh.s, I saw your audio recordings in Lingua Libre. Very happy to see and I Appreciate that. I think you recorded some proverbs? Example:Example 1, Example 2. Please add this Category:Telugu pronunciation of proverbs on your proverbs audio files. I think Telugu Lingua Libre community also record proverbs. So Please add this category on other's proverbs audio files. Because I don't know Telugu that much. If you have any difficult to add a category every time. Use https://quickcategories.toolforge.org/ Thank you Sriveenkat (talk) 03:06, 11 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Sriveenkat: Thanks for your wishes and suggestions. I experimented with the first batch of Telugu proverbs which don't have a Wikipedia page (and thus, no Wikidata item). I didn't expect to get help from a fellow Wikimedian so quickly. I'll start using Quick categories from now on. Please continue to guide me in LinguaLibre. Pavan santhosh.s (talk) 04:17, 11 October 2023 (UTC)
- Ok I will continue to guide you. I can't understand the "don't have a Wikipedia page (and thus, no Wikidata item)" Can you explain that? Sriveenkat (talk) 04:43, 11 October 2023 (UTC)
- Now I found a other easy way for adding category. By Using Cat-a-lot
- You enable Cat-a-lot in Preference --> Gadgets scroll down Go to Tools for categories section and Enable it.
- Add Proverb Categories
- Step 1: Open the your Contributions on the above of the Wikimedia Commons
- Step 2: Click the Cat-a-lot in the bottom right side corner
- Step 3: Just Clicking files it will appear with green color background
- After selecting files, Type on cat-a-lot search box The category ex:Telugu pronunciations by proverbs. press enter and select the 'Telugu pronunciations by proverbs' and press + icon.
- Cat-a-lot tool really help for us. See about more on Help:Gadget-Cat-a-lot Sriveenkat (talk) 11:02, 11 October 2023 (UTC)
- "don't have a Wikipedia page (and thus, no Wikidata item)" Some Telugu Proverbs have articles and thus categorised in Telugu Wikipedia. I mean to say that these proverbs which I have created audios doesn't have such Wiki pages. Pavan santhosh.s (talk) 13:54, 11 October 2023 (UTC)
- Wow @Sriveenkat! Cat-a-lot is very handy. Added Category:Telugu pronunciation of proverbs to all the relevent files from my contributions. :-) Pavan santhosh.s (talk) 14:00, 11 October 2023 (UTC)
- Ok. Nice. I am surprised that Telugu Wikipedia has articles for some proverbs. If you want to record more proverbs, You can record Telugu Proverbs Book from Wikisource. Download the book as a text file. do some cleanup process with text editor you can use geany, notepad++ you can use any text reader which the support regex (regular expression) If you don't know about regex See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regular_expression. I will try to create a guide about the process. I created for Tamil proverbs for Lingua Libre. see the list on lingua libre https://lingualibre.org/wiki/List:Tam/proverbs Sriveenkat (talk) 14:11, 11 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Sriveenkat, I am very interested in recording more proverbs. It's inspiring to see the List:Tam/proverbs. I found it a bit challenging to copy and add proverbs one by one during my first experimental attempt. If "Regex" can help with that, it would be awesome. "Regular expression" is new to me. I'll start by reading the English Wikipedia page you shared and then get back to you. Thanks. Pavan santhosh.s (talk) 14:46, 11 October 2023 (UTC)
- Regex will solve your challenges. Don't do one by one copying pasting. Use a text editor supports full regex. Please tell me Which text editor are you using? So, I will Guide for that software? As for me I recommend using w:geany. Geany is free and open source tool. This software available for Linux, Windows, Mac. All text editor softwares are the same with minor differences.
- First make your record list as line by line. Please If there is any quotes ("), pullstop, remove it. Because sometimes the file may get corrupted after uploaded.
- Next Open Find & Replace and enable regular expression.
- In find box type ^ , In Replace box type #. Click Replace all. It will a # before the text line "# అంగటివీథిలో అబ్బా అంటే, యెవరికి పుట్టినావురా కొడకా అన్నట్టు."
- Now copy all the text and paste it in the recording box in Lingua Libre.
- Give your feedback after use it. Thank you Sriveenkat (talk) 02:31, 12 October 2023 (UTC)
- Hello Pavan Santhosh! Now List:Tel/proverbs Created by me. So You can use this list to record in Lingua Libre. You can see some big lines on the list, Please Avoid that big proverbs. Commons Filename size should be 240 bytes. above that bytes size We can't upload it. So Avoid it. Thanks Sriveenkat (talk) 11:55, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
