Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 11:09, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

Data used to create election maps
[edit]Would you be willing to share the county-level data you used to create your election maps?
Source of Election Data
[edit]Hello Inqvisitor! It's nice to see someone else on here making election maps. :) I was wondering what you were using in terms of data sources (books, election webpages, etc.). As for myself, I've used "United States Presidential Elections, 1788-1860: The Official Results by County and State" by Michael J. Dubin, "Presidential Ballots, 1836-1892" by Walter Dean Burnham, "The Presidential Vote, 1896-1932" by Edgar Eugene, and "They Voted For Roosevelt" by Edgar Eugene.
Cheers! --Tilden76 (talk) 21:53, 9 March 2013 (UTC)

Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Inqvisitor. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Inqvisitor~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell

Alaska results on the Gary Johnson strength map
[edit]Hey Inqvisitor! I saw that you added county equivalent results for many 2016 presidential election maps. I was wondering if you could add those results for my Gary Johnson strength map using my color key, if you have the time. File:Gary Johnson strength map by county, 2016.svg Thanks! --Mr.Election (talk) 15:22, 2 March 2017 (UTC)

Election result at presidential level
[edit]Hey! Nice to meet you Inqvisitor. I recently saw that you had created the county map (in this case borough and census area) for the 2016 presidential election between Trump and Clinton in Alaska. In the edit history you said you arrived at this result by deriving returns from each precinct, however I have been unable to find a reliable source for this in the past. How did you retrieve the information in question, and if possible could you please provide the dataset obtained from this analysis? Thank you very much. 142.157.201.140 06:23, 28 October 2020 (UTC)
