English: The Philadelphia Museum (not to be confused with the Atwater-Kent Philadelphia History Museum or the Philadelphia Museum of Art), also called Peale's Museum (not to be confused with the Peale Museum in Balitmore), was a museum founded by Charles Willson Peale in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. From 1784 until 1794, the museum was located in Peale's home at 3rd and Lombard Streets. In 1794, the museum moved to Philosophical Hall (American Philosophical Society), and in 1802 it expanded to the second floor of the neighboring Pennsylvania State House (Independence Hall). The museum also included a menagerie of animals in the State House Yard (Independence Square). In 1827, the museum moved to its own building a few blocks away. From 1849 to 1854, the museum's collections were sold to various buyers. The majority of the collection objects have been destroyed by fire or lost, but a large number of portraits from the collection were purchased by the City of Philadelphia and are now part of the collection of Independence National Historical Park. The back gallery of the Second Bank of the United States features an exhibit about the Philadelphia Museum.
