English: The Eternal Flame of Hope is located in Pecaut Square in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and is dedicated to physically disabled persons. The inscription states: "Symbolic of the hopes, aspirations and triumphal achievements burning within the human spirit. May courage never be extinguished, or light diminished nor spirits bound in pursuit of personal excellence." Ignited on May 27, 1996 at the launch of a cross-Canada marathon for people with physical disabilities, the flame was temporarily extinguished and covered with protective plywood in 2010 to protect it against the demonstrations and protests against the G-20 Toronto summit.
