Thank you for providing images to the Commons. Please keep in mind that images and other files on the Commons must be under a free license and should be useful to the Wikimedia projects. To allow others to use your files, some additional information must be given on the description page. Most importantly:

• Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
• State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly. If it is from another Wikipedia user, link to the person's local user page. Best use CommonsHelper
• If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
• Add a copyright tag - images without an appropriate license tag will be deleted.
• Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate categories, so it can be found by others. To find out where an image belongs, you can use CommonsSense.

If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki. Use CommonsHelper.

Translation

Hi, I am thecurran and I am interested in your comment on the recent poll, Commons:2008 Election suffrage poll, that Google was the worst translator on the Net, implying that http://babelfish.yahoo.com/translate_txt was better. I disagree with that viewpoint. I ran through both translators before choosing and found that Babel Fish was not strong enough to interpret the difference between a command like "Stop the vote!" and a declarative statement like "The vote stops!". I used information from both. My translation was not pulled straight from Google. I relied more on Google though than Babel Fish because Babel Fish disregarded sentence structure to the point that it gave a nonsensical exclamation where Google gave a clear, strong command. :)--Thecurran (talk) 06:03, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

Bonjour Yodaspirine,

Je connais cette image depuis longtemps, elle apparait dans de nombreux forum, site d'infos et autres blogs. C'est pourquoi, je me suis dit (peut être naïvement) qu'il n'y aurait pas de souci en la mettant sur wikimedia commons ; tout en précisant qu'elle n'était pas de moi. Tiens moi au courant, je ne suis pas trop au point pour les droit d'images et autres. Tu parles de procès, comment ça ? Broken72 (talk) 20:36, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

Cette photo a été prise de nuit depuis un hélicoptère, je pense qu'elle a été prise pour un magazine. Effectivement, elle a été ensuite reprise par des sites d'infos(qui ont peut-être payé l'auteur pour l'utiliser) et des forums(qui ne risquent pas grand-chose car souvent peu connus ou tolérés). Toutefois comme précisé dans la FàQ, "Seul le créateur de l'œuvre originale peut donner une licence à son travail" donc si on ne sait pas qui est l'auteur, on ne sais pas sous quelle licence il l'a mise.

Par précaution on suppose que cette image est sous copyright, et si c'est le cas, l'auteur peut demander des réparations car on a utilisé son œuvre sans lui demander l'autorisation (voilà l'explication simple d'un bordel juridique sans nom). C'est vrai que c'est frustrant car ça limite l'illustration de nombreux articles...YSpirine (talk) 18:54, 11 June 2011 (UTC)

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

Dear Yodaspirine,

The 2013 Picture of the Year competition has ended and we are pleased to announce the results: We shattered participation records this year — more people voted in Picture of the Year 2013 than ever before. In both rounds, 4070 different people voted for their favorite images. Additionally, there were more image candidates (featured pictures) in the contest than ever before (962 images total).

• In the first round, 2852 people voted for all 962 files
• In the second round, 2919 people voted for the 50 finalists (the top 30 overall and top 2 in each category)

We congratulate the winners of the contest and thank them for creating these beautiful images and sharing them as freely licensed content:

1. 157 people voted for the winner, an image of a lightbulb with the tungsten filament smoking and burning.
2. In second place, 155 people voted for an image of "Sviati Hory" (Holy Mountains) National Park in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine.
3. In third place, 131 people voted for an image of a swallow flying and drinking.

Salut (et salut à Marianne Casamance et Pymouss au passage),

J'ai commencé une liste pour les 377 parcs et réserves pour WLE : Commons:Wiki Loves Earth 2015 in France/List (plutôt pour nos usages internes, on pourra facilement en faire une version simplifiée plus tard pour les participants). J'aurais besoin d'aide pour compléter cette liste (ce qui comprend la vérification et la création des catégories et éléments manquants).

Sinon, que penses-tu des colonnes que j'ai choisi ? est-ce qu'une colonne OSM te semblerait pertinente ? (en tout cas, je vois que sur Wikidata, la propriété OSM est rarement entrée).

In the final round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2017.

Wiki Loves Monuments France 2019

Bonjour,

Le concours Wiki Loves Monuments France est de retour et ouvert jusqu'à 31 septembre ! Déjà 8310 photos ont été importés cette année, vous aussi rejoignez le concours !

Le concours concerne tous les monuments présents dans la base Mérimée (qu'ils soient classés, inscrits ou simplement classés). De l'imposant château aux ruines industrielles, de la chapelle au coin de la rue aux mégalithes en forêt, c'est un impressionnant patrimoine qui attend d'être photographié et documenté. Où que vous soyez il y a des monuments autour de chez vous. Enfin, vous pouvez mettre en ligne autant de photos que vous le souhaitez de ces monuments. Pour information, le règlement est disponible sur le site du concours. Nous attendons vos photos avec impatience !

Les plus belles photos seront sélectionnées par un jury national composé d'amateurs et de professionnels, de contributeurs à Wikimedia Commons et d'acteurs du patrimoine. Un jury international sélectionnera ensuite des meilleures photographies mondiales.

Si vous avez des questions, l'équipe organisatrice se fera un plaisir d'y répondre.

Le concours Wiki Loves Monuments France est ouvert pour une semaine encore, jusqu'au 30 septembre. Déjà plus de 6 000 photos ont été importées cette année alors vous aussi rejoignez le concours ! Cette campagne de contribution concerne tous les monuments et objets mobiliers présents dans la base Mérimée et dans la base Palissy.
