Templeton to hold 39th annual Sacred Heart Church Street Dance

The 39th annual Sacred Heart Church Templeton Street Dance will take place at the Templeton Ball Park on Wednesday, July 3.

The event will include a DJ, carnival games for kids from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and a beer garden and food stand until midnight. At dusk, the Templeton Fire Department will put on a fireworks show through funds raised by a year-long pop can collection drive.

Heidi Klocke of Templeton has organized the Street Dance kids games for six years. With over ten games and activities, kids can enjoy a paddle wheel, two-liter ring toss, football toss, bean bags and more. Tickets are 50 cents a piece, and Klocke said the kids are guaranteed a prize no matter what, with three levels of prizes for winners and participants.

“All the funds for all the prizes are basically donated through our parish,” she said. “We focus on the kids and just really look forward to having a bunch of happy kids over there, and it’s really amazing.”

The Templeton Street Dance is a fundraiser through the Sacred Heart Church parish. Klocke said members of the women’s guild run the food tent each year, selling burgers, pop, chips and homemade pies, and members of the men’s guild and other parishioners help run the beer tent.

The parish also runs a Street Dance raffle each year, selling tickets for $25. Both the raffle prizes and kids game prizes are funded completely by community donations through the church and local businesses. Prizes for the raffle total $4,000 and include gift cards for local businesses, with the grand prize being $500 cash.

Klocke said the Street Dance is usually packed, with community members lining the entire outfield of the ball park each year.

“I would guess every year we probably have 200 plus kids that are over there playing the games constantly the entire time,” she said.
