Ground broken on construction of new Manning neighborhood

Manning celebrated the groundbreaking of its new Stadium View Neighborhood Friday, where Origin Homes is currently developing 20 pocket-sized lots and 16 traditional sized home lots.

Origin Homes has begun construction of their June plan, showcasing the construction of five new Manning homes. The new neighborhood is located west of IKM-Manning High School on Willow Drive.

At the ceremony, Origin Homes Director of Operations Matt Daniels thanked the city of Manning, saying the partnership has been a huge opportunity for Origin. Daniels said he hopes to have the homes up and running before Christmas of this year.

“The opportunity to bring affordable housing, more rooftops to rural Iowa, to Manning… we appreciate the members, business leaders and everybody that’s here and in full support of Manning,” he said.

City administrator and clerk Dawn Meyer said Manning spent time in 2020 thinking about what the town could do for growth. The city worked with Iowa State Extension and Outreach to complete a house readiness assessment to find ways to grow housing in Manning.

Meyer said the land acquisition happened through partnerships with the city Public Works department and IKM-Manning schools. The partnership with Origin Homes followed, and Meyer said things fell into place.

“Obviously it took a ton of work, we don’t think about that part, we think about the celebrations that come with being able to kick off something like this, especially in a town with 1,500 people,” she said. “So we are very happy that the community took the chance on a subdivision like this, and we couldn’t be happier that Origin has taken a chance on building five homes in our community.”

Stadium View will be the largest home building division in Manning’s history, and will encompass a “pocket neighborhood” of 20 homes with alley-loading garages, shared green spaces and connected walking trails.
