PATHOLOGY & LABORATORY MEDICINE OPPORTUNITIES
Discovering, Diagnosing, and Fighting Cancer
In this department, you’ll be on a stellar team consisting of lab technicians, pathologists, and researchers that are all specialized in a range of solid tumor types, cytology, and hematopathology. We work tenaciously and collaboratively to harness new knowledge to help lead the fight against cancer, one patient at a time. Learn more:
Laboratory Medicine
Laboratory Medicine is a growing team dedicated to creating innovative ways to improve care and give our medical staff the information and resources needed to help our patients. Cancer experts at Memorial Sloan Kettering depend on the Department of Laboratory Medicine for adult and pediatric patient laboratory testing, which aids in diagnosing, staging, and monitoring cancer. We’re always looking for laboratory experts who specialize in:
• Cell therapy
• Clinical Chemistry
• Clinical Hematology and Immunology
• Clinical Microbiology and infectious disease
• Hematopathology
• Transfusion Medicine
Because Laboratory Medicine handles testing needs system-wide, we have more than one lab across MSK. You can make a difference in our state-of-the-art laboratory medicine facility on East 64th Street, our laboratory on our main campus, or our outpatient sites in Manhattan, New Jersey, Westchester, and Long Island.
Pathology
The Department of Pathology at Memorial Sloan Kettering is one of the largest in the world, consisting of pathologists, molecular diagnosticians, and researchers with expertise in a range of solid tumor types and cytology and hematopathology. Powered by the most advanced technology and diagnostic techniques, this team analyzes thousands of tissue samples each year. We generate more than 180,000 diagnostic reports annually and have one of the country’s most extensive academic molecular diagnostics services. Our areas of expertise include:
• Autopsy Services
• Cytology Service:
• Diagnostic Molecular Pathology Service
• Hematopathology Service
• Surgical Pathology Service
• Experimental Pathology
We collaborate with medical teams and specialists throughout MSK to customize treatments for patients based on their individual diagnosis and disease characteristics. Our team also provides diagnostic consultations for healthcare professionals around the world.

Center for Innovation
Warren Alpert Center for Digital and Computational Pathology
Established in 2017, the Warren Alpert Center for Digital and Computational Pathology facilitates novel research and development in digital pathology and algorithmic computational pathology for clinical cancer care and research. We have slides, data, and information regarding cancer diagnosis, treatment, and research spanning over 40 years and a digital archive of over 3M images. The Center is also a hub for existing digital pathology efforts to establish a fully digital workflow for our department.
Center for Innovation
Precision Pathology Biobanking Center
The Precision Pathology Biobanking Center (PPBC) encompasses our core research facilities such as research histology, immunohistochemistry, and the biorepository of tissues for cancer research.
The PPBC is involved in evaluating novel technology for pathology research and practice. They also establish research collaborations with internal and external investigators and commercial entities and facilitate the development of a federated research database to link tissue samples with annotating pathology and clinical information, which makes them maximally valuable to researchers.
