For more than 40 years, Atrium Health has played an active role in providing clinical education for medical students. Wake Forest University School of Medicine has partnered with Atrium Health to build a regional campus in Charlotte with the emphasis to bring Health, Hope, and Healing-For ALL.
Led by Dr. Angela Sharkey, Senior Associate Dean of Undergraduate Medical Education, Wake Forest University School of Medicine and visiting fourth-year medical students learn from a dedicated team of physician-educators n the dynamic environment of a leading urban medical center.
Wake Forest University School of Medicine third-year students spend their Immersion-Clerkship Year rotating in both in-patient and out-patient settings while also participating in a longitudinal Family Medicine clerkship with community preceptors. Students experience the depth and breadth of acute, chronic, and preventative care with a focus on health equities. Fourth year students, with guidance from Wake Forest University School of Medicine advisors, benefit from an abundance of learning opportunities as they plan their Individualization Year. Students can choose from the 70+ rotations in Charlotte in addition to the numerous offerings in Winston-Salem.

Medical students that attend Wake Forest University School of Medicine may select to complete all their third-year and/or fourth-year clinical rotations in Charlotte through Atrium Health.
Wake Forest University School of Medicine student and faculty representatives will discuss learning opportunities in Charlotte with first year students in early Spring. The Charlotte campus also hosts an Open House allowing students to visit and meet faculty, residents and students.
Fourth year medical students from around the United States can apply for Charlotte rotations through the Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO) website. Look for courses offered in Charlotte through the Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
