Welcome to Amharic Wikipedia! I hope you enjoy improving and editing this Wikipedia project. These pages are especially useful for those who are literate in Amharic. However, even experienced Wikipedians who don't know any Amharic have helped out with other things, like 'Interwikis' and updating images from Commons, etc. So don't be afraid to improve the wiki any way you can! Remember, someone else can always come later and fix any changes you make that are not perfect.

You can set your own language for the interface at Special:Preferences. Just scroll in the box where it says 'am - አማርኛ' until you see your language, then click the ይቆጠብ (save) button at the bottom!

Feel free to use our Sandbox to make test edits. If you want to talk with other members in general, for now you can use the Village pump. Sign your name on any Talk pages by just typing '~~~~' (four tildes) at the end of your message.

If you have any questions about anything, don't hesitate to ask on my or another administrator's Talk page. Happy editing! With regards,

Please refrain from reverting Amharic literate contributors if you are illiterate in Amharic. We have no need for any Amharic illiterate editors, project or taskforce to revert the contributions of those who can read the language. Thanks for your understanding. ፈቃደ (ውይይት) 12:14, 17 ዲሴምበር 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Codex Sinaiticus: Hello! Sorry, just noticed this message now. Are you saying non-Amharic speaking editors should refrain from reverting blatant vandalism? I'm didn't make that revert as a means of judging content quality; it's simply blatant vandalism that should be reverted as soon as possible. Thanks, Vermont (talk) 20:26, 7 ጃንዩዌሪ 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The edit you reverted last month is definitely not blatant vandalism. It was someone attempting a revision who obviously knows Amharic, which I do not believe you do, but you reverted it nevertheless. What I meant to prevent is you reverting revisions in Amharic of native Amharic speakers. That I think would be better left to editors who can read the content. Also non speakers relying on google translate do not work well on any language, and I have yet to see a google translation yet that was not thoroughly deceptive about what it really says. Blatant vandalism is something else entirely. Til Eulenspiegel (talk) 20:56, 7 ጃንዩዌሪ 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Codex_Sinaiticus: Looking at the diff, they removed the == after one of the section titles, blanked the second paragraph, removed the first sentence/parts of sentences from the other paragraphs, and removed the article's only source. That is blatantly vandalism. In regard to Google Translate, I did not use that in this case, although when I did for your userpage which seems to have worked well: "The target of the WMF is to enforce homosexuality in the eyes of the world...They will never pay you any contributions for the benefits, as WMF members earn too much money..." I'll be sure to be more careful when reverting vandalism on this project. Vermont (talk) 21:06, 7 ጃንዩዌሪ 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The user was most probably removing some info they disagreed with that may be controversial. But obviously they can read it and substitute grammatical forms, so it wasn't intended as vandalism. And no, that is a deceptive google translation that jumbles words in the wrong order, mistranslates them and leaves many out. Til Eulenspiegel (talk) 21:16, 7 ጃንዩዌሪ 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, it didn't leave the other content on your userpage out. I simply cut out part of it to showcase those two bits. Vermont (talk) 21:30, 7 ጃንዩዌሪ 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I know. But it still managed to omit about half of the words in those excerpted bits, and what's there is jumbled up and mistranslated. Til Eulenspiegel (talk) 21:35, 7 ጃንዩዌሪ 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Til Eulenspiegel: Just wondering, do you have a written policy prohibiting homosexual/LGBT+ editors from contributing to this project? Vermont (talk) 21:38, 7 ጃንዩዌሪ 2019 (UTC)[reply]
We have a written policy that explains how the code section, crimes tending to corrupt public morals is considered here. But I really don't intend to get drawn into another conversation about trying to explain to you the Ethiopian attitudes, so I see no need to discuss the subject with you any further.

The pages I deleted were requested for deletion through global sysop channels on meta (as this project has no local admins), and those pages were simply pastes of likely-copyrighted religious content. Dozens of thousands of bytes of text uploaded in under an hour, copied from various sites. This is an encyclopedia, not a religious reference or defense site, and beyond that it does also seem to be be a copyright issue. One of the pages was a defense of polygamy from an Islamic standpoint, taking clear religious sides. Though I am not here for content guidelines enforcement, this project has no local sysops and the combined copyright and point of view issues necessitated deletion. I hope this helps explain my actions. Vermont (talk) 03:14, 27 ዲሴምበር 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Your reply only makes sense, if you consider yourself personally sent to Earth on a mission to persecute content about religions other than your own, or anyone believing differently from whatever you believe in. It seems your true purpose was to make a stink smelled all around the globe, and in that you have achieved your purpose - you have made your stink now and we have smelled it all around the globe. I can assure you we all know very well now exactly who "Vermont" is! KZebegna (talk) 10:52, 27 ዲሴምበር 2021 (UTC)[reply]
