This endowment honors the legacy of Ronald S. Stroud (1933-2021), a professor of classics at UC Berkeley and a founding member of AHMA. Stroud was also a long-time member of the American School of Classical Studies. And for more than a quarter century, he was the principal editor of the Supplementum Epigraphicum Graecum.
The Ron Stroud Fellowship was established as an endowment in 2022 to support doctoral students in the department of Ancient History and Mediterranean Archaeology (AHMA). Additional contributions to this fund will help AHMA to recruit and support the most promising scholars in the dynamic field of history and archaeology of the ancient Mediterranean world, while honoring the legacy of our cherished colleague, teacher, and scholar.
This is a current-use fund for the Graduate Group in Ancient History and Mediterranean Archaeology, in the Arts and Humanities Division within the College of Letters and Science. The fund will be used to support activities that advance the study of the history, art, and archaeology of the ancient Roman world, including pre-Roman Italy, the Etruscans, Sicily, Sardinia, Romans and Italians abroad, and the Roman provinces, from the beginnings through Late Antiquity.
Support doctoral students developing an expertise in the history and archaeology of the ancient Mediterranean world through coursework, excavation, survey, and museum work. Your gift directly supports students by helping to provide academic year stipends and grants for research in the Mediterranean world for excavation, survey, and study in museums.
