Captain Sir Walter Robert Buchanan Riddell, 12th Bt. was born on 21 April 1879.2 He was the son of Sir John Walter Buchanan Riddell, 11th Bt. and Sarah Isabella Wharton.2 He married Hon. Rachel Beatrice Lyttelton, daughter of Charles George Lyttelton, 8th Viscount Cobham and Hon. Mary Susan Caroline Cavendish, on 28 August 1919.1 He died on 5 June 1934 at age 55.2
He graduated from Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)2 He gained the rank of Captain in the 1st/9th Hampshire Regiment.2 He fought in the First World War.2 He was chairman of the University Grants Committee.2 He was Principal between 1922 and 1930 at Hertford College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.2 He succeeded as the 12th Baronet Riddell, of Riddell, co.
