Lt.-Col. Richard Gubbins was born on 22 July 1781. He was the son of James Gubbins and Mary Watts. He married, firstly, Mary Breton, daughter of Peter Breton and Lucy Goldwin, on 18 October 1819. He married, secondly, Sarah Shard, daughter of Charles Shard, on 28 September 1825 at St. James's, Westminster, London, England. He died on 2 January 1836 at age 54.
