Brigadier Henry Coventry Maitland Makgill Crichton was born on 29 June 1880 at Marylebone, London, EnglandG.1 He was the son of Andrew Coventry Maitland Makgill Crichton and Katharine Charlotte Hulse.1 He married Dorothy Margaret Thorburn, daughter of Sir Walter Thorburn and Elizabeth Jackson Scott, on 21 October 1911.1 He died on 29 September 1953 at age 73.1
He was educated at Charterhouse School, Godalming, Surrey, England.2 He fought in the Boer War, where he was severely wounded.2 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches and was wounded.2 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1916.2 He was awarded the Chevalier, Ordre national de la Légion d'honneur.2 He gained the rank of Colonel in the Royal Scots.2 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1919.2 He was Colonel of the 1st Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers in 1928.2 He was Temporary Brigadier and Commander of the 14th Infantry Brigade between 1933 and 1937.2 He held the office of Aide-de-Camp to HM King George V between 1934 and 1937.2 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1937.2
