     Captain Sir Edward Clive Milnes-Coates, 2nd Bt. was born on 21 May 1879.1 He was the son of Edward Feetham Coates, 1st Bt. and Edith Woolley.1 He married Lady Celia Hermione Crewe-Milnes, daughter of Sir Robert Offley Ashburton Crewe-Milnes, 1st and last Marquess of Crewe and Sibyl Marcia Graham, on 8 October 1906.2 He died on 4 September 1971 at age 92.1
     He was given the name of Edward Clive Coates at birth.1 He was educated at Charterhouse School, Godalming, Surrey, England.1 He was educated at Exeter College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.1 He gained the rank of Captain (RO)|15th/19th Hussars.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1919.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Coates, of Helperby Hall, Helperby, co. York [U.K., 1911] on 14 August 1921.1 In 1946 his name was legally changed to Edward Clive Milnes-Coates by Deed Poll.1

Annabella Hungerford Crewe.3 He married, firstly, Sibyl Marcia Graham, daughter of Sir Frederick Ulric Graham, 3rd Bt. and Lady Jane Hermione St. Maur, on 3 June 1880.1 He married, secondly, Lady Margaret Etrenne Hannah Primrose, daughter of Archibald Philip Primrose, 5th Earl of Rosebery and Hannah de Rothschild, on 20 April 1899.1 He died on 20 June 1945 at age 87.1

Annabella Hungerford Crewe, on 20 April 1899.1 She died on 13 March 1967.2
     From 20 April 1899, her married name became Crewe-Milnes.1 After her marriage, Lady Margaret Etrenne Hannah Primrose was styled as Baroness Houghton on 20 April 1899. She held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for County London.2 She was awarded the Imperial Order of the Crown of India (C.I.) in 1911.1 After her marriage, Lady Margaret Etrenne Hannah Primrose was styled as Marchioness of Crewe on 22 June 1911. She was awarded the Chevalier, Ordre national de la Légion d'honneur.2
