     Catherine Bernard was born in 1740. She died in 1769.

     Lt.-Gen. Sir Ralph Abercromby was born on 25 October 1734.¹ He was the son of George Abercromby of Tullibody and Mary Dundas.¹ He was baptised on 26 October 1734.¹ He married Mary Anne Menzies, Baroness Abercromby of Aboukir and Tullibody, daughter of John Menzies and Ann Campbell, on 17 November 1767 at Ferntower, Crieff, Perthshire, Scotland^G.¹ He died on 28 March 1801 at age 66 at Aboukir Bay, Egypt^G, on board H.M.S. Foudroyant, from wounds received in battle.¹ He was buried at the Commandery of the Grand Master, Malta.¹
     He was educated from 12 Jun 1748 at Rugby School, Rugby, Warwickshire, England^G.¹ He gained the rank of Cornet in 1756 in the 2nd Dragoon Guards.¹ He gained the rank of Captain in 1762 in the 3rd Dragoons.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Clackmannanshire between 1774 and 1780.¹ He gained the rank of Colonel in 1781 in the 103rd Foot.¹ He gained the rank of Major-General in 1787.¹ He was Commander-in-Chief of the forces in the West Indies in 1795.² He gained the rank of Colonel in 1795 in the 7th Dragoon Guards.¹ He was appointed Knight, Order of the Bath (K.B.) on 22 July 1795.¹ He gained the rank of Colonel in 1796 in the 2nd Dragoon Guards.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Clackmannanshire between 1796 and 1798.¹ He gained the rank of Lieutenant-General in 1797 in the British Army.¹ He was chief military commander of the forces in Ireland in 1798.² He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Ireland] in 1798.¹ He held the office of Governor of Inverness between 1798 and 1801.¹ He was chief military commander of the British forces in the Egypt in 1801.² He fought in the Battle of Alexandria on 21 March 1801, where he was mortally wounded.¹
     According to Gibbs, "he was not a very great commander, but a high-minded, hard-working, sensible, and humame soldier. 'As he looked out from under his thick shaggy eyebrows, he gave one the idea of a very good-natured lion.¹' " He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.³
     

     George Abercromby of Tullibody was the son of Alexander Abercromby and Mary Duff.² He married Mary Dundas, daughter of Ralph Dundas of Manour and Helen Burnett.² He died on 8 June 1800.³
     He lived at Tullibody, Clackmannanshire, Scotland^G.¹ He was an advocate.²

     Mary Dundas was the daughter of Ralph Dundas of Manour and Helen Burnett.^1,2 She married George Abercromby of Tullibody, son of Alexander Abercromby and Mary Duff.³
     Her married name became Abercromby.³

     Ralph Dundas of Manour was the son of John Dundas of Manour and Elizabeth Hamilton.² He married Helen Burnett, daughter of Sir Thomas Burnett of Crimond and Janet Bruce.¹ He died in 1729.¹
     He lived at Manour, Perthshire, Scotland^G.³

     Françoise de Rochechouart was born in 1641 at Tonnay-Charente, France^G.¹ She was the daughter of Gabriel de Rochechouart, Duc de Mortemart and Diane de Grandseigne.¹ She married Louis Henri de Pardaillan de Gondrin, Marquis de Montespan.¹ She died on 27 May 1707 at Bourbon-l'Archambault, France^G.¹
     After her marriage, Françoise de Rochechouart was styled as Marquise de Montespan.³ She and Louis XIV, Roi de France were associated between 1668 and 1677.¹

     Agnes de Poitou married Heinrich III, Holy Roman Emperor, son of Conrad II, Holy Roman Emperor and Gisela of Swabia, in March 1043.¹ She died in 1077.²

     Mary Anne Menzies, Baroness Abercromby of Aboukir and Tullibody was the daughter of John Menzies and Ann Campbell.¹ She married Lt.-Gen. Sir Ralph Abercromby, son of George Abercromby of Tullibody and Mary Dundas, on 17 November 1767 at Ferntower, Crieff, Perthshire, Scotland^G.¹ She died on 11 February 1821 at Charlotte Square, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland^G.¹
     From 17 November 1767, her married name became Abercromby. She was created 1st Baroness Abercromby of Aboukir and Tullibody, co. Clackmannan [U.K.] on 28 May 1801, suo jure, for her husband's gallant conduct at the battle of Alexandria. She was also granted a pension of £2,000 per year.¹

     John Menzies lived at Ferntower, Crieff, Perthshire, Scotland^G.¹

     Ann Campbell was the daughter of Patrick Campbell.¹
