Lt.-Gen. Sir James Dunlop, 21st of that Ilk was born on 19 June 1759.1 He was the son of John Dunlop, 19th of that Ilk and Frances Anna Wallace.1 He married Julia Baillie, daughter of Hugh Baillie, on 20 July 1802 at Colvend, Southwick, Kirkcudbrightshire, ScotlandG.1 He died on 30 March 1832 at age 72 at Colvend, Southwick, Kirkcudbrightshire, ScotlandG.1
He fought in the Battle of Seringapatam on 4 May 1799, where he was severley wounded.1 He gained the rank of Major-General in 1810.1 He fought in the Peninsular Wars in 1811, where he commanded a brigade in the 5th Division.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-General.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Kirkcudbright in 1812.1
