Truth-well-told I’m a Woolies shopper through-and-through. I just love the shopping experience and the journey they take you on in store. I recently spotted this Window Display for Woolies Home. Below what I love about this: 1. Great scent and flavour storytelling - aiding improved shoppabililty 🌾 2. Impactful colour blocking - making it not only visually striking from near and far, but also easier to shop across the range 🛍️ What’s missing for me is the end-benefit of a scent for the shopper. “Perfect for relaxed spaces” - “Smells like a summers night” - as examples. I absolutely love this view. And while it showcases how retailers view growth opportunities, it’s a great insight into how brands themselves need to present to retailers - showcasing an understanding of the retail world and the core retailer objectives - and how their product and shopper programs address these. As brands we need to think more like retailers. We should be less centered around ourselves and more centered around our key customers and what they need. Enticing the taste buds is proven to scientifically make you spend more (ever gone to the store hungry? IYKYK). ✨I love how both these examples demonstrate this - showing a delicious end dish to make you hungry! 2. Make it PRACTICAL 📝 Once you’ve created the desirability, you need to help the shopper shop with ease - “how can I quickly and easily find everything I need to make this meal happen?”. Offer a recipe card, a shopping list, showcase the ingredients - or even better, merchandise together. ✨I love how Woolworths have done this when their visual shoppable list at the bottom - making it super easy to shop the dish. 3. I’ve been working on so many projects at the moment that demand “BUY & WIN” competitions to drive volume. But I’m seriously not a fan - there are better and more strategic ways you can drive volume instead of short-term incentives such as competitions (see a great example below of a strategic basket builder). There is also no differentiation for brands when they run BUY & WINS with every brand doing it. Below is a great way to drive basket building. Effective Shopper Marketing campaigns are able to drive volume with solutions that are meaningful - here we see a perfectly paired intrinsic solution - cool and hot coming together for ultimate enjoyment. What this does so well is recruit new shoppers into both brands through cross-pollination of their own shoppers - and drives a bigger basket by getting them to buy a +1 to their usual purchase. It also recruits new shoppers into both brands who have never considered either - because of the reframed solution and value proposition delivered through a taste experience.
