ORT SA CAPE is celebrating programmers on International Programmers' Day On the 256th day of the year, September 13 (or 12 in leap years), we celebrate International Programmers' Day, a day dedicated to the brilliant minds who build the digital world around us. From the apps we use daily to the systems that power entire industries, programmers are the architects of our tech-driven world. The number 256 holds special significance in computing, symbolising the number of values that can be represented in an 8-bit byte—an essential building block in programming. As we celebrate Programmers' Day, it’s important to acknowledge the need for early exposure to coding. By encouraging the next generation of learners, we can help ensure that the digital world continues to flourish with fresh talent and innovative thinkers. This is where programmes like The Dory Code play a crucial role, making coding education both accessible and enjoyable for young learners. The “Rising Star” for September is Zoe Stevens.   Zoe began her 12-month work experience in April 2024, at JC Educare in Tafelsig. Her role is to assist the teacher of the class of 2-3 year olds. The principal expressed her appreciation for Zoe, saying she goes above and beyond her role as an intern, doing things that are not expected of her. She does lesson planning and brings a creative flair to her lessons. Her positive energy and clever ideas excite the learners. Her FARMING WEEK initiative was a wonderful way for learners to experience and learn about farming and farm animals, without stepping foot out the classroom. Zoe even demonstrated to the children how to milk a cow.   We are so proud of how proactive and creative you are Zoe. You are a Rising Star! Well done!

No textbook or lesson plan can fully prepare our children for the future that’s ahead of them. Children are facing a rapidly changing world, so it’s essential to equip them with the skills they need to thrive. By fostering creativity, problem-solving, and resilience today, we can help them build a brighter future. Here are five ways we can give every child the chance to learn through play:  https://lnkd.in/efQkc6eV

The City has approved the exemption from admin penalties for ECD centres in informal settlements and poor communities in the City of Cape Town. I am so incredible proud of Centre for Early Childhood Development Advocacy and Social Justice Unit for addressing this barrier to registration for ECD centres in Cape Town! This exemption is for ECD centres operating without the necessary land use approval in place or approved building plans. Centres in vulnerable areas no longer have to pay an administrative penalty before getting these approvals - 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝘄𝗶𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗖𝗗 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆!
