The NCPC-SA is a national programme that drives the transition of SA industry towards a low carbon economy

About us

The National Cleaner Production Centre South Africa (NCPC-SA) is a programme of the South African government focused on enabling the country's industrial sector to increase its competitive capability and sustainability through more resource efficient and cleaner production. The NCPC-SA falls under the auspices of the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) and is hosted on its behalf by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). The NCPC-SA promotes the implementation of Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) methodologies to assist industry to lower costs through reduced energy, water and materials usage, and waste management. The NCPC-SA is a member of UNIDO and UNEP’s global resource efficiency and cleaner production network (RECPnet) and plays a leading role in the African Roundtable on Sustainable Production and Consumption (ARSCP), with the NCPC-SA currently the President of the African body.

UNIDO's Regional Representative for Southern Africa, Dr. Diego Masera, participated in a meeting of representatives of the UN in South Africa with the Director General of the Presidency, Miss Phindile Baleni, on Monday. The delegation was led by the Resident Coordinator of the UN in South Africa, Mr. Nelson Muffuh. Dr. Masera explained that UNIDO’s work in Southern Africa was underpinned by its core priorities, namely enhancing economic competitiveness, creating shared prosperity, and safeguarding the environment, as the organisation seeks to support governments and industries in achieving their development goals while addressing the pressing challenges of climate change and energy transition. Alignment with South Africa’s National Priorities Dr. Masera commended President Cyril Ramaphosa for his clear and compelling vision shared during the recent Climate Resilience Symposium. “The President’s  commitment to pursuing low-carbon, green industrialization that creates jobs for all South Africans resonates deeply with UNIDO’s objectives.” He said that UNIDO was keen to contribute to this vision, and offered the organisation’s support in several key areas, namely: ·     Supporting Industrialization and Economic Competitiveness ·     Advancing the Energy Transition ·     Addressing Climate Change through Green Industrialization ·     Creating Jobs and Enhancing Skills Development He concluded by stating that UNIDO, as a member of the UN family in South Africa, stands ready to support South Africa’s Government of National Unity in achieving its ambitious goals. “Whether through industrialization, energy transition, climate action, or job creation, we are committed to working alongside the GNU to build a sustainable, inclusive, and prosperous future for all South Africans.” The Presidency of the Republic of South Africa
