Victor has been an integral part of our team, leading with exemplary dedication and innovation. Those who worked closely with Victor know him as a genuine character, always ready to lend an ear or share insights from his vast experience. Victor's influence extends beyond the day-to-day operations; he has profoundly shaped our team culture, fostering an environment where teamwork and mutual respect are paramount. As Victor turns the page to this new chapter, we wish him nothing but joy and relaxation in his well-deserved retirement. While we will miss his daily presence, we are excited to see him embark on this next adventure. After living abroad Chef Luke returns to South Africa, to elevate the iconic hotel's dining experiences. “I’ve always appreciated and respected what Mount Nelson does and represents,” says Chef Luke. “This majestic property possesses 125 years’ worth of history that I feel I need to uphold, which is a huge responsibility.” With extensive experience in fine dining, Chef Luke brings a fresh perspective to Mount Nelson's gastronomic offerings. Having spent the last ten years honing his skills in Hong Kong, Chef Luke’s career has seen him opening world class restaurants that explore diverse cuisines and innovative culinary experiences. At the Nellie, we understand that family is not just an important thing; it’s everything! This belief was brought to life in the most vibrant way possible during our recent Family Day event. Our hotel grounds buzzed with excitement as employees and their loved ones gathered for an unforgettable day filled with laughter, games, gourmet food and boundless fun. The highlight of the day was when we handed palettes and brushes to our littlest guests. Their task? To transform the back-of-house hotel walls into a canvas reflecting their imagination and love. With each stroke of paint, these budding artists poured their hearts out, leaving behind vibrant reminders for their parents, aunts, uncles, and family members who dedicate countless hours within these walls. The result was nothing short of magical—a mural that encapsulates pure affection that every staff member can look upon daily. We often say that our team is like family, but on Family Day at The Nellie, we made it official. On Monday 27th May 2024, we had the honor of celebrating longevity, loyalty, and the unwavering commitment of our esteemed colleagues who have dedicated a significant portion of their lives to serving our hotel, at our annual Employee Awards Evening. We also recognised our ''You Make the Difference'' winners of 2023. What sets our winners apart is their extraordinary dedication to their craft, their willingness to go the extra mile, and their ability to consistently exceed expectations. We celebrated the milestone achievements of 13 incredible individuals, highlighted by the dedication of Letetia Johns marking 35 magnificent years of service before her retirement in November 2023, and Gaby Palmer crowning two decades of mesmerizing service. We also had the pleasure of announcing our two Employees of the Year for 2023. Kelsey Maskell, Sales Executive-Front of House and Nomachina Sponi, Housekeeping Attendant - Back of House, two colleagues to truly display incredible resilience, positive attitudes and who consistently bring our family values to life at the Nellie! Belmond is proud to announce the launch of our 'As Seen By' photobooks, a new ongoing series produced in partnership with Parisian publishers RVB. Each book presents the unique perspective of a single artist as they explore a different destination around the world. As such, these books champion fresh takes on travel photography. The three launch books focus on the work of three incredible female photographers - Coco Capitan, Rosie Marks and Letizia Le Fur - and cast three iconic Belmond destinations in a new light: Caruso, A Belmond Hotel on the Amalfi Coast, Mount Nelson, A Belmond Hotel in Cape Town, and the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express in Europe. Looking back to an exciting week at the Cape Town Stadium where we were given the opportunity to share the Nellie with travel professionals attending, We Are Africa. At the Mount Nelson stand our very own tea sommelier, Craig, shared his in-depth knowledge of tea while watercolour artist Vos & Ink captured portraits of guests.
