What a wonderful privilege to represent my school and county at the Nobel Prize Teachers’ Summit sponsored by the Sweden Institute. I had to put on my Mama Winnie top for this occasion because I feel she was robbed for not being recognized for the immense role she played during the dark times of apartheid. MaNgutyana this is for you ✊🏿👊🏿✊🏿 I know you never got a peace prize but I wanted to honour your name by wearing your face at the very building where laureates are honored. You deserved it. You carried the entire movement on your shoulders as well as the dreams and hopes of the oppressed majority. You are our very own Iron Lady. Continue to rest in power Queen Mother. On Tuesday, 13 August 2024, we had the delight of hosting a group of enthusiastic little girls from Molo Mhlaba School’s Montclair campus for our weekly Desmond’s World puppet show. As they stepped into the edutainment space and watched our puppet show, their eyes lit up with excitement and their laughter filled the space, creating a vibrant atmosphere of joy. The puppets brought the anti-bullying stories to life and the theatrics of each character captivated their imaginations, making for an unforgettable experience. Hearing the learners describe the show as “amazing” and their wish to stay longer was truly heartwarming. Their exuberant reactions and smiles were a testament to the magic of storytelling and the joy it brings to young hearts. Election Fever at Molo Mhlaba Schools! Our 9-12-year-old girls have been buzzing with excitement, asking lots of questions about voting. At Molo Mhlaba, we believe in following the child’s curiosity, so we decided to run the Intraschool elections! The girls took charge by creating political platforms, conceptualizing their ideas, branding, and campaigning. Today was Election Day, with inspiring movements like: Literacy of Peace and Power (LLP) Girl Power Just be beautiful Girls First Movement Better Future for Girls Girls Against Poverty SheLeads Alliance (SLA) South African Human Rights Fighters African Girls Organisation (AGO) African Fearless Girls BGM They learned about active citizenship, and the importance of voting, and for those leading campaigns, they got a taste of political leadership and the intricacies of campaigning. Our goal is to shape future political leaders and encourage all young girls to exercise their democratic rights. Given the election fever we’ve seen in the country, the girls have been asking lots of questions about voting; so since we have to follow the child’s interests and curiosity in a Montessori school I decided to run intraschool elections at Molo Mhlaba Schools The girls created a political platform, conceptualized it, branded it, campaigned, then today it is day 1 of elections. They learnt about active citizenship, the long process of voting, and for the leaders they learnt about the politics of campaigning. The end in mind is to shape future political leaders and to encourage future voters to exercise their democratic privilege of voting 🗳
