Adolescents with BPD often experience extreme shifts in mood, from deep despair to sudden euphoria, which can lead to self-harm, reckless behaviour, and tumultuous interpersonal conflicts. These young individuals may struggle with a distorted self-image, feeling uncertain about their identity and often fearing abandonment by loved ones. Symptoms typically emerge during adolescence, a critical period of emotional development, complicating the already tumultuous journey of self-discovery and social navigation. Early identification and intervention are crucial in managing BPD in adolescents, aiming to provide support, therapeutic strategies, and a stable environment conducive to their emotional growth and recovery.
