When I was a kid, I remember sitting down with my grandpa and drinking a cold glass of buttermilk.
I kid you not. He would drink buttermilk. PLAIN. In a tall, striped glass with ice. That’s just how he rolled. And because he was my favorite, I rolled that way too. Have you ever had a glass of buttermilk? Yeah, let’s not go there.
However, I do love baking and cooking with buttermilk. I always buy the brand of buttermilk that has the California Dairy logo on the carton. (Gotta support my local farmers!) But nine times out of ten, I end up with about half a carton left of buttermilk and no clue what to make. And no, I don’t drink it by the glassful anymore. 😉
So I thought it would be cool to roundup a bunch of recipes that you could pick and choose from to use up leftover buttermilk. And if you don’t have buttermilk on hand but want to make one or ninety of these recipes, here’s my kitchen hack for making sour milk, which is just about the same thing as buttermilk. Now, go on. Oh my gosh, this is perfect! I have been wondering for days what to do with my leftover buttermilk! I only buy it about once a year to make some new recipe I have found, and then like you, I end up with half a carton I don’t know how to use! Totally pinning this!

Oh my goodness I am almost never without buttermilk. Biscuits, corn bread, pancakes, ranch dressing, my very favorite cake layers, and even a buttermilk pound cake have to have real buttermilk not the kind you make with vinegar or lemon juice. I buy it by the gallon.
Wow I don’t think I could even take a sip of just plain buttermilk! But I’m loving these recipes! I always have leftover buttermilk in my fridge, so this will come in handy!
