Founded in 1986 in Taiwan, Sunmerry Bakery originated in Japan before making its way to Taipei. With a fusion of Japanese baking techniques and local Taiwanese flavors, Sunmerry has become a household name in the city. As a family-owned company, Sunmerry values growth measured by the quality of its products and customer satisfaction, rather than by store count or sales figures. The bakery takes pride in its baking expertise and innovation in creating new products that cater to local tastes, qualities it aims to bring to the US market. Specializing in fresh Asian pastries and desserts, Sunmerry offers a diverse range of over 80 bread and cake varieties. Some popular items include the Green Tea Croissant, Taro Milk Cake, BBQ Pork Chashu Bolo Buns, and freshly baked 6" and 8" birthday cakes. Their drink menu features Salted Cream Tea, Fresh Lemon Green Tea, Grapefruit Green Tea, Oreo Milk Tea, Brown Sugar Milk, Dalgona Coffee, Thai Milk Tea, and Cold Brew Coffee. Boba, Pudding or Lychee Jelly can be added to any drink for an extra treat.

Q:
Anyone know how they make their salted cheess? ive tried doing cream cheese and heavy whipping cream, salt and sugar, never got their consistency and flavor.

No answers yet. Answer this questionQ:
How is this business handling the re-opening? What safety measures are they taking? Are they offering dine-in?
A:
Staff are just wearing masks and they have some hanging clear "walls" to separate the worker and customer. They often leave the door closed and sometimes A/C is not working but they thoroughly clean. No dine-in at all.

This is my go to Sunmerry. I love the staff's friendliness, Angie is always so sweet and patient when helping me decide. I particularly love this bakery's version of the chocolate concha's. Not your authentic Mexican concha, however still yummy, as they are filled with hazelnut cream
Their egg tarts are good as well.
Customer area is always clean. It's a self serve bakery (except for the cakes and drinks). The bread is individually sealed or wrapped and trays with tongs are provided.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Dec 8, 2024
-This bakery is so expensive!! $3 for a croissant where a competitors croissant is $2.10
-The brioche is $3.50 here, the competitor charges $2.80
-The bread is alright
-The location is really convenient since it's on Las Tunas
-There's underground parkingHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Sharon S.San Gabriel, CANov 17, 2024
They have the most delicious and different desserts. The desserts are not sugary but just enough of sweetness. Great assortment of baked pastries. Very clean and good
service. Very cute decorations on
the cakes.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Feb 1, 2025
I came here on a Friday night and it wasn't crowded at all. The matcha tiramisu caught my eye and had high hopes.. but it's not very tiramisu-y, more like dry cake with a little bit of cream in between layers. The hokaido cream cake was a bit better but also kind of dry. I've gone to Sunmerry multiple times to try their pastries and cakes, but they're always a bit disappointing :( the staff seems nice though.

Such a fun Chinese bakery full of goodies! The items look super tasty and would rival the 85 degrees shops!
Got the almond croissant, strawberry mochi donut, and sliced white bread. Enjoyed all of it.Helpful 3Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Sep 14, 2024
Small bakery, similar to 85C, located in the Camellia Square plaza on Rosemead and Las Tunas. The plaza has many restaurants so it gets crowded and parking can be difficult. There is additional parking available in an underground lot.
I must have popped in right after the morning crowd because nearly half of the bread/pastry shelves were empty. I managed to grab a couple savory breads, a couple sweet breads, and one of their beautifully made moon cakes.
Service was ok. Nothing stood out. I wasn't greeted or helped in any way. Which is fine for a grab and go style bakery.Helpful 7Thanks 3Love this 5Oh no 0 - Jul 24, 2024
We pre-ordered a cake for pick up, which was quick and seamless. We ordered the Matcha Tiramisu ($38), which was great for our party of 12 people. The matcha flavor is balanced well for a creamy texture. They also topped it with an adorable white chocolate bear, which isn't hollow inside.
I also liked how they included a happy birthday sign, candles (these were nice candles too, not the cheap basic kind), and plates/utensils. Definitely recommend coming here to get your birthday and celebration cakes!Helpful 4Thanks 1Love this 6Oh no 1 - Jan 14, 2024
Over 80 types of bread and cakes are made from scratch.
Quality/Quantity -
Got the following today:
Jasmine Green Milk Tea with Boba
Strawberry Black Tea with Lychee Jelly
6 pastries:
Chocolate Concha - This was very chocolatey, in a good way.
Milk Butter
Garlic Parsley
Brioche
Green Tea Croissant
And not sure what my daughter picked for the last one, see picture.
Day old pastries discount section - Buy two get one free. It would be nice if each pastry had their respective price.
Mix and match conchas 4 for $10.
Also available - Breads, buns, soft serve (mini), round cakes, pineapple cakes (Taiwanese style), roll cakes, puffs, tarts, puddings, brioche, donuts, cookies, etc.
Atmosphere - Nice looking shop, has a lot going on; see pictures.
Most importantly, the baked goods looked good.
Make sure you refrigerate all the baked goods if they are not consumed immediately.
Open 7 days a week from 8am to 9pm or 10pm.
Mall parking, but not enough spaces for all the businesses here.
Service -
This is where they failed.
BOGO, Buy One Get One Free - Promotion for specific drinks, see picture. Very strict rules, which did not apply to us, so we paid full price to get what we (my daughter) wanted.
Price - $23, reasonably priced for what we got.
Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 1986 with your 12+ locations. Starting in Japan, then to Taiwan in 1986.

This location is conveniently located in a plaza with some good restaurants. The store is not super big and they do run out quick. If you come in late in the day, most of the good items are gone. The employees here are nice. In all honesty, this is a pretty typical Asian bakery similar to 85 Degrees. The baed goods are just ok. Nothing here really wowed me though.
