I went to the Garden Cafe inside Sentara for lunch. They have Ala carte, salad bar, and food on the grill, as well as premade food to grab and go. In the morning there's oatmeal and grits. During lunch there are different soups in addition to everything else. The food is very reasonably priced. I got a chicken sandwich and fries for $5.50... Hellerrrrr!! That was a great deal!! The chicken sandwich was loaded with all the fresh veggies I needed. It was really good and tasted fresh. The fries were hot and yummy also.
They have cookies and a few snacks as well. There are condiments and bags also. It's a good place to grab a meal whether you're visiting the hospital or just want to grab a quick bite. You can certainly eat decent for less than $10. The line moves pretty quickly and there's plenty of parking.
You do have to stop and get a visitor pass to enter. The staff is friendly and the cook was really nice!!! Check them out!!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jan 26, 2023Previous reviewThis hospital is located off Princess Anne Rd. Its close to the farmers market and Landstown Commons. They have a parking garage. It can sometimes be hard to get parking on the 1st floor unless your willing to kinda wait and linger until someone moves. But it wasn't too bad today.
My daughter had a procedure done at this location. We arrived around 6am so she could get prepped and whatnot. The staff and nurses were nice and answered all our questions. They got her set up and comfortable. They explained what they'd be doing before taking her back.
It was a 3 hour procedure but expect to stay for recovery time. 3 hours quickly turned into 5+ hours. While waiting i got lunch in the cafeteria. If you go during lunch or breakfast expect it to be lines and people. It was alot going on today but i managed to get in and out in 15 minutes or less. The prices are reasonable. I got a burger and fries for about $7. Pretty decent. Make sure you smile at the cook or he'll only give you 12 fries... Lol. Everyone elses fries were plentiful, but mines were the your to chunky for more than 12 fries special. Lmbo. No biggie!! The food is pretty decent most off the time from the grill. They've got hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, burgers, and etc that are precooked then finished in the grill. They also had a hot bar with pasta and a nacho bar . I did hear people mumbling about the high price for the taco salad. So i guess it just depends on what you get. The menu changes daily.
The gift shop has some cute items in it if your looking for gifts. But they're pretty high priced also. Sometimes they have clearance and sale items. That's my favorite time to come. Things like novelty cups, purses, clothing, baby items, snacks, and etc. Cute store!! Theres also an on site pharmacy.
This is one of the nicer sentara hospitals in my eyes. But they're emergency room is not my fav, sometime the doctors in the E.R. are rude. You'll sit hours waiting to be seen only to leave with motrin. Smh. The wait has been horrible most of the times I've went. Unless your dying don't expect a quick trip. The rooms are normally full. Maybe that's changed, hopefully it has. Bedside manner is important, but its certainly lacking... So if your there for a regular visit you'll probably have a better experience. If your there for the E.R. expect to get arrested if your lippy!! Lol. Just kidding. The diagnostic and xray dept is nice and the techs are normally pretty friendly.
All in all its a decent hospital depending on what you are there for. - John S.San Francisco, CA27Jan 19, 2024

Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to bring to your attention an unfortunate incident that occurred during my mother's recent visit to your esteemed hospital for back surgery, which took place from January 15, 2024, through January 16, 2024.
Regrettably, there were some distressing occurrences that transpired during the surgery. Despite the procedure being intended to be swift, my mother found herself on the operating table completely unclothed. Despite her repeated requests to be covered, her pleas were disregarded by the medical staff. Furthermore, she overheard them making jests about her nails, which further compounded her distress. Additionally, she was informed that the doctor was outside the room attending to a phone call, leaving her feeling apprehensive about the situation.
Anxiety-ridden, she beseeched the medical personnel to administer anesthesia, as she strongly desired to be unconscious throughout the procedure. To her dismay, her pleas fell on deaf ears, and she remained conscious until the final moments of the surgery. Following the procedure, she endured excruciating pain, and the doctor remarked that her discomfort was unsurprising due to the considerable force exerted on her back.
Unfortunately, the medical team was unable to effectively manage her pain. As the hospital was purportedly closed, she was transferred to the emergency room, where she remained until the following day when she was eventually discharged. Understandably, my mother has been profoundly upset and has been enduring significant physical suffering, feeling deeply humiliated by the entirety of her experience.
I kindly request that you thoroughly investigate this matter and take appropriate action to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.
Thank you for your prompt attention and understanding.
Yours sincerely,Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Judy K.Norfolk, VA052Apr 23, 2024
Better signage is needs on campass. Took me forever to find the building i needed for my test. I was almost late. I was winded from walking from building to building then to the test sight. The Sentara Heart. Hospital is 100% better. I will say that the help were very gracious in giving directions and one woman walked with me for a good distance. She said not worry, "Everybody has trouble ".

Why do they have to have a person "check" you in? If you are visiting someone and know where you are going, why waste precious time and attitude dealing with some person that you have no intention to see just to get an ID piece of paper that already waste time, money and resources. It has to be a local government idea.

Those who know me well understand that I'm very familiar with hospitals & medical facilities. Sigh....... This one, I'm sorry to say, is not among my favorites.
Although the newest hospital in the area, it's layout & design leaves much to be desired. The hospital and it's associated medical buildings are a complicated maze that always leaves one making wrong loops & turns before finding the correct area. The numbering system on the buildings has caused me to be late after driving around and searching. Once I even had to call a doctor's office to locate the building. The only reason I chose this hospital for a recent testing procedure was because it was the only one that had an opening in the time period my doctor had requested.
One would think that finding the main entrance and parking lot to the hospital wouldn't be hard. But the signage caused a wrong turn, which was soon corrected. I had been worried about the parking garage. But there were handicapped parking spaces that were open very close to the hospital entrance. There was a walk across the spacious lobby to the Registration Desk, where I was given a number and pointed towards a waiting area. When I was called to Check-In the associate noted that I couldn't walk long distances & got a wheel chair. She took me to a very small, crowded waiting area that was in one side of the lobby. Every chair was taken. It didn't offer the physical distance between chairs that Sentara hospitals like Leigh & the Heart Hospital have, which makes one feel safe. To make matters worse, there was a strong food smell. The culprit was a young maskless woman eating lunch from a takeout container. Someone should have had her move to an area that wasn't filled with masked (as per Sentara policy posted on the entrance door) individuals in close proximity, waiting for a medical procedure. Why the tight grouping in such a spacious unused area?
The technician who did my procedure was very nice. She was accommodating & I was happy with her level of care and knowledge. My problem is not with the employees. It's with their use of space & layout. I didn't feel safe waiting, like I do at the other hospitals.
When we left the parking garage it was the same confusion. The exit pointed towards Dam Neck Road, which was not the direction we were headed. So we turned in the opposite direction and had to find our way through the maze with the assistance of the WAZE App.
No more procedures at Princes Anne Hospital for me. I'll wait, if I have to, for an easier to navigate and safer feeling Sentara facility.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - William C.Virginia Beach, VA708018Sep 15, 2022
Where is Sentara Princess Anne Hospital 'care' in healthcare 7am-8am & 7pm-8pm? Pray you don't need non-life threatening support for those 2 hrs Admin Tasks are priority. Nurses & Care Givers are amazing. Leadership processes/culture is an obstacle for them.
@sentaraRMH Are you patient centered? Not in Virgina Beach you aren't. No care delivered at shift change. Sitting in urine for an hour..with response...sorry we are giving shift report. Seen in the Emergency room with potentially contagious symptoms was horrified that the place was emptied and we were placed in a chair in the middle of emergency room. To make matters worse the discharge information is heard by everyone. What happened to hippa? There was one nurse for all. I am ashamed that I recommended this place in lieu of Portsmouth naval hospital since it was an naval officer I told. Embarrassing.

We had to take a number we asked how long the wait we were told 30 months or so. 11/2 hours later we notice other numbers being called like number 8 before 6. We were told it's a lottery system that throws out random number wtf. We then meet Tamara who felt she had entitlement to discriminate against us. My daughter is disabled but appears cognitive. When I spoke for my daughter like Biling information she abruptly told me to stop talking for my daughter. I told her she does not know information like my husband social security. She said you guys need an interpreter because my daughter is Spanish and disable. She claimed it was Sentara policy. When asked where is this policy that a mother can not speak for her disable child. She said to leave and go across the street. Tamara approached us hostile and discriminated against us. When I spoke to her supervisor she confirmed it was inappropriate treatment. I just hope no one gets this same treatment beware

These stars are for the cafeteria - with staff that bust their butts day in and day out and food that is always on point.
Let's be honest - nobody really wants to be at a hospital for any reason, right? But if you're going to have to spend an inordinate amount of time in one, at least there is comforting, delicious food available to soothe your soul.
I'm currently filling up on some chicken tortilla soup with giant chunks of chicken in this 40 degree weather and loving it! The menu changes daily which is really nice and they have everything from salmon and BBQ turkey legs to beef and broccoli or wings. Some days I don't find something I love, but that's ok. I'll inevitably grab a soda and snack for the afternoon. They also offer breakfast, but I can't comment on anything except lunch.
Sentara/EVMS staff get a discount, if you fall into those categories but even without it, the prices are incredibly reasonable for the amount of food you can get.
Don't go to the hospital if you don't have to (hello, Covid?!), but if you have to be there, find some comfort in the cafe.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Tudor P.Arlington, VA010Feb 18, 2023
My daughter had a Hysterectomy ablation surgery and the doctors and nurses were amazing, kind, professional, comforting, angels like, with one exception Ms Harlan, or Harlenn who forgot to remove the IV needle and EKG sticker from her body, left her shaking to dress herself, and was rude being more preoccupied to find out her nationality than to provide care.
Thank you Dr Fish, nurses Anna, Ken and all the excellent staff who took care of my daughter.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
