Another Dry Month on Delmarva

June was another dry month for the Delmarva peninsula, the third month in a row where Salisbury and Georgetown recorded rainfall deficits.

The dry weather was mainly the result of a persistent pattern of dominant high pressure, coupled with several bouts of unseasonably dry air from Canada. This also comes with the fact that rainfall is typically inconsistent in the summer due to the uneven nature of how thunderstorms develop. Take the examples below, where Salisbury received a majority of its monthly rain during a persistent thunderstorm event on the 26th. A similar scenario played out in Georgetown on the 14th of the month when more than half of the monthly rainfall occurred.

As a result of the dry pattern, much of the peninsula has entered into drought status. Along with the the drier than average June, Salisbury and Georgetown also had warmer than average temperatures, running 1.9 and 1.5 degrees above average for the month respectively.
